The Antonov An-124 Ruslan was the largest airplane in production until the Antonov An-225 was built. Developed primarily as a strategic military freighter the first model An-124 flew on 1982. A second model made the types first western public appearance at the Paris Airshow in 1985, preceding the types first commercial operations in January 1986.
