PAGY - Skagway Airport. Skagway, AK, US Skagway is a borough Alaska Panhandle. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city was 862. However, the population doubles in the summer tourist season in order to deal with more than 900,000 visitors. Skagway is a popular stop for cruise ships. Skagway is from the Tlingit name for the area Skagua or Shgagw i meaning a windy place with white caps on the water. By Tony Vienonen
