Add-ons developers news Orlando, Florida - Project Open Sky (POS), an international aircraft simulation freeware design group, has selected August 13, 2001 as the release date for multiple versions of Boeings most advanced airliner, the 777. Designed as an add-on for Microsofts Flight Simulator 2000,

free downloads will commence then from the groups own web site, followed by availability from leading flightsimulation community web sites like Avsim.com and FlightSim.Com. The POS 777 series aircraft slated for release will be -200, -200ER and -300 variants. Avid fans will be able to select from all three available powerplants too: PW4000 series, RR Trent series and GE90 series. An Operations Manual for proper ops will be provided. The groups open policy toward allowing repaints by others as long as a few simple rules are followed will also continue. Experts as well as novices will also appreciate being able to mix and match the models with a panel and/or sounds of their own choice.

All aircraft are tuned for the most realism possible within the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000 environment, including differing weights, dimensions, thrust and fuel usage. The groups aircraft visual model designers, Hiroshi and Missi, both based in Japan, have gone through great lengths to bring users never seen detail in the aircraft model. All models will feature a 40-sided fuselage (not including the wing root/fairings) and will also showcase wings which flex upward, just like real 777 airliners do while flying. Standard features like tilting main gear structures, true-to-life shape, antennae, full and accurately timed animation, and attention to detail, etc. which have become trademarks of the group will also be showcased.

To achieve flight dynamic accuracy, real-world data and actual flight deck experience were uniquely combined too. Several real-world long-haul pilots have acted as advisors to the group and have been invaluable for their help, feedback, flight experience and beta testing.

Painters have working feverishly to provide an unprecedented variety of liveries for "freeware" release, each specific to its respective plane and specifications. Screen shots have already been posted on the Project Open Sky Public forum
