Virtual Airlines news and articles Cambridge Online Flying Club is pleased to announce its impending opening in January 2003. Applications for membership are currently being accepted by real world pilots or students of JAR-FCL (N-PPL) or other international equivalents.

The Club is NOT another Virtual Airline. Moreover, it is a community environment, where real world pilots (prospective, training or post qualification) are able to exercise their passion for aviation within the context of FS 2002 and VATSIM, the virtual Air Traffic Control environment.

Emphasis will be on a "community" of pilots, with a "real" passion of aviation. The Club is supported by extensive dynamic web based tools, a fully automated "Pilots Reporting System", an online calendar and bookings facility (for club and private members use), a Forum to exchange ideas and experiences, plus a fully functional private Internet based voice communications facility that allows you to chat freely with other club members, even when running FS2002 alongside Roger Wilco. Tools to be released for Members includes an online Pilots Log Book, to automatically record your real world flying a provide Pilots with immediate flying summaries across all categories.

The Club has been founded by 2 real world pilots, Dave Tidwell of Cambridge, UK, who is training for JAR-FCL at Cambridge Airport (EGSC) in Cessnas, and Tim Westnutt, the operations Director of a real world Cargo Operation with its hub in the Netherlands. Tim has been flying as a commercial pilot for over 20 years in many fields (and countries) and despite flying for real everyday still enjoys the community environment of FS2002 and online flying with fellow aviation freaks!

The club formally opens in January 2003, but applications for membership are being accepted now. If you are a real world pilot (in current training or post qualification) and feel you are able to inject input into the build up of the club, and are willing to support the club with ideas to support its formal launch, then please contact Dave or Tim at the club.

The club can be reached online via http://www.davetidwell.com/egsc

This is not just another Virtual Airline! The Club has no formal staff, schedules or VA affiliations. Members are free to fly what they like, where they like, but to be able to do so in conjunction with a common callsign (ASP - Airspeed) and the support of other real world pilots.

If you are getting ready for your "cross country qualification", load up the new "getmapping" photorealistic scenery overlay for FS2002, jump into your favourite aircraft, and fly VFR with Flight Information Services on some practice runs! Members will recieve a complimentary copy of Gary Summons excellent Cambridge Airport Scenery as originally included in UK2000 Airport Scenery Part 4, East Anglia.

Both Tim and Dave are delighted to present this new club to VATSIM real world Pilots, and look forward to meeting with fellow pilots in the club facilities.
