The F-14 Tomcat is a supersonic, twin-engine, variable sweep wing, two-place fighter designed to attack and destroy enemy aircraft at night and in all weather conditions. Tomcats were sold to the Shaw of Iran in 1979, The Iranian Revolution resulted with the F-14 in the hands of a potential adversary. Lack of spare parts, crippled the Iranian Tomcat fleet.However the French upgrades to Iraqi MiGs have given speculation to an operational Iranian Tomcat.
