DOUGLAS DC-3/C-47/R4D DUAL PANEL UPGRADE FOR MICROSOFT FLIGHT SIMULATOR 2000

THIS IS AN UPGRADE. BOTH WJRDC3DP.ZIP AND WJRDC3V2.ZIP ARE REQUIRED AND MUST BE INSTALLED IN ORDER TO USE THIS PRODUCT.

This upgrade corrects some graphic degradation and gauge problems which occur when running the FS98 Version 2 panel in FS2000. This upgrade contains panel modifications only. A future planned release will contain a complete panel redesigned for FS2000. It will also feature a new aircraft by Jan Visser, which, like the new panel, will be designed for FS2000 to make use of many of the new features of the latest incarnation of FS.

An unexpected plus is that our tests demonstrate this panel will obtain substantially increased frame rates when compared to the default MS FS2000 panels. Increases have been as high as 100% on a high end machine. Even on a modest P-II 266 with an ATI Rage Pro 3D card, it registered frame rate in the mid-twenties, while the stock panels were in the mid-teens in the default start-up situation at Miegs.

In case you have yet to figure it out, this is a very complex panel which pushes the edge of FS in some computers. So the other side of the coin is that, if you are running a low-end or even mid-range system, as I am, you may experience instances of missing gauges. My P-II 266 loses the First Officer's clock as well as the Carb Heat knobs on that side. I can live with that until I upgrade my computer.

NOTE TO NEW USERS OF THE DUAL PANEL: If you are not familiar with Version One or Two of this panel, I strongly recommend you read the illustrated manuals.  I think you will enjoy them, and I'm certain that if you don't you will miss some of the features in the panel.  Please don't write us to ask questions unless you have first read the manuals and assured yourself the answer isn't there! Having said that, all intelligent inquiries are welcome.

INSTALLATION

1. Install wjrdc3v2.zip, (aircraft with panel) in FS2000 according to manual instructions. This includes installing the gauges from wjrdc3dp.zip in the FS2000 Gauges folder. (Note: You may obtain a special file which contains only those gauges from the original panel needed for Version 2, plus the v1 manual, at ftp://ftp.roychaffin.com/pub/wjrdc3ga.zip. This will save nearly 3 MB of download over wjrdc3dp.zip.)

2. Unzip wjrdc3v3.zip, using WinZip v7.0 or above, to a temporary directory of your choice.

3. Unzip Panel.zip and copy (overwrite) the contents into the FS2000/Aircraft/r4dnats14/Panel folder.

4. Unzip Gauges.zip and copy the contents to the FS2000/Gauges folder.

WARNING TO HACKERS
Roy Chaffin's gauges are fitted with a security system to stop them being "hacked". Any attempt to change anything within the gauge (by HEX editing) or changing the Bitmaps will cause the gauge to stop functioning. Furthermore even changing the exterior file name of the gauge will also render it useless. Unfortunately this action has been caused by a few persistent, disrespectful pirates who do not seek or gain permission to use other peoples copyrighted work.  Roy is sorry that "the many" have to suffer because of "the few".

Attention Software Pirates:  In case none of the above registers with you, let me put it this way:   This is Freeware.  It has been produced and provided solely for the enjoyment of Flight Simmers.  Neither I nor any of the gauge programmers and others who have contributed their hard work to this project expect to make a cent from it.  I will, however, happily take your money in the form of legal compensation under the Copyright Laws of the United States and the United Kingdom if you pirate this work!  Neither Roy nor I are "wet behind the ears", and we have hungry attorneys.  You would do well to look for  easier marks!

OK, enough of the obligatory unpleasantness.   If you enjoy and appreciate this product, please let us know.  We truly would appreciate hearing from users with either compliments or complaints.
