AW38 Whitley Mk 1

Starting SET:-
Fuel tanks as required.
Throttle closed, Mixture rich and Props slow.

Run as slowly as possible for 30 secs.
Then warm up at 1,000 rpm.
At Zero Boost, check prop speed controls.
Check full engine speed of 2700 RPM.
At +9 lb. Boost, check mag. drop of less than 150 RPM.
Minimum rpm. for normal running is 1,000 rpm.
Brake pressure is 100 lb./sq. in. min.~ 450 lb. supply.
Oil Pressure is 90 lb./sq. in. normal ~ 30 lb. Min.

Taxying:-
Keep engine rpm. above 1,000.
Ensure brake pressure is above 120 lb. /sq. in.

Takeoff:-
Set prop to full speed. Flaps to 15 deg.
Run up to 2,000 rpm. release brakes and increase to full
throttle.
Boost of 12 lb. at 3,000 rpm. to 1,000 ft.
Take off speed is 80 ~ 90 mph. IAS.
Safety speed is 100 mph. IAS.

Climb:-
Climb at 800 Ft./min.
At 1,000 ft. Retract flaps
set 2,800 rpm. at 7 lb. boost.
At 3,000 ft. lean mixture.
Climb at 115 mph. IAS. To 15,000 ft. (typically)

Cruise:-
2,800 rpm. and +3 lb. (36 inHg.) Boost.
Zero trim at 130 ~135 mph. IAS.

Approach:-
Flaps to 30 degs, 115 mph. IAS.
2,400 rpm. +4 lb. Boost.

Finals:-
Undercart down, Mixture rich, Flaps full out.

After landing:-
Run engine at 800 ~900 rpm. until cool:
Stop engine and leave Mixture at normal,Prop at slow
and all electrics off.
