New jet sound files for Flight Simulator 98
*******************************************

Airbus A320 V. 3.0

Description:

These files are edited from original sound recordings onboard and outside
a A320-200 with CFM56-5A1 engines on ground and in flight.

The original recordings were splitted into several parts each of
which represents the sound impression at different levels of thrust.
After editing and filtering the files where arranged and properly linked
in the sound.cfg file to give a rather realistic and dynamic sound
behaviour.
The sound package consist of two sets: one for interior (cockpit) views and
one for exterior (observer and tower) views.

The interior sound consists of a cabin component (APU and noise of electrical equipment)
which is constant, an idle engine component which is only audible when the
engines are running, and two files representing the sound for
higher thrust levels.

Due to limitations in the simple FS98 sound engine there is only very little
sound variation possible in the range of 20% to 70% of N1 speed.
In this range only the idle sound is used (with variable volume and pitch).
Above 70% it is possible to activate other sound files at certain steps of N1.
These sound files are mixed together to give the total sound.

The wind sound increases in volume and pitch from 120 to 350 knots airspeed.

The exterior sound consists of a idle part and two components for higher thrust,
a 'rumble' sound for reverse thrust, and the sound of the APU. The exterior sound
impression depends not only on thrust but also on the observers distance from the
aircraft. This is because the FS98 sound engine was not originally designed to have
jet sound files for different levels of thrust but for different levels of engine volume.
So the most realistic sound is only achieved at a certain distance which is about
200-250ft. At distances below 200ft it is possible to hear sound components for higher
thrust even if the engines are running idle. The APU (Auxiliary Power Unit) is audible
with constant volume at every arbitrary distance. If this is unwanted, edit the sound.cfg
file, locate the section [xapu] and change the lines immediately preceding it to look
like this:

;link=xapu
link=xidle

Due to a bug in FS98 the interior cabin sound and the exterior APU sound vanish after
any operation in the FS98 menu bar. The sound can only be restored by loading the aircraft
again.

Installation instructions:

The sound files should be used with all A319, A320, and A321 aircraft. Supposed your
A3xx is installed in a container directory Aircraft\A320 below the FS98 installation
directory you should perform the following steps:

1. From your FS98 installation directory go to Aircraft\A320\sound
2. Delete (optionally backup) all files contained here.
3. Copy all the files in this archive to this sound directory.
4. From the FS98 standard B737-400 sound directory B737_400\sound copy the following
eight files:
BAAPDIS.WAV
BAGLIDE.WAV
BAOVER.WAV
BASTALL.WAV
BMGWARN.WAV
BMTOUCHC.WAV
BMTOUCHL.WAV
BMTOUCHR.WAV
This can be done using the file install.bat contained in this archive. Open an explorer
window containing your A320\sound directory and run this batch file by double-clicking on
it. Check that the above eight files are present.
5. From the FS98 installation directory open the file FLTSIM98.CFG with your preferred
text editor and locate the section [SOUND]. Check and set the following values:
[SOUND]
Channels=2
SamplesPerSec=22050
BitsPerSample=16
If the SOUND section is missing completely add it like the above at the end of the file.
6. Run FS98. For exterior (observer aircraft) views set the distance to 200ft.
