A NOTE ON VFR PHOTOGRAPHIC SCENERY
CENTRAL & SOUTHERN ENGLAND UPGRADE FOR FS2002 & 2004

*********************
Background to Project
*********************

I have found that World co-ordinates with 'VFR Photographic Scenery - Central & Southern England Upgrade for FS2002 & 2004' running does not always coincide with the default FS2002 scenery co-ordinates.

Consequently, preliminary observations with my earlier Scenery Modules (Modules 1 to 5) indicate an unacceptable level of 3D-object blending in certain areas. The most obvious deviations being a slight extension of the landmass at the Eastern Docks of Southampton Port and positional mis-alignment of the Itchen bridge, Vickers-Thorneycroft dockyard and Ocean Village.

Having said that, the release of Modules 1 to 5 of the Southampton & Regional Area Project was instigated before the public release of 'Just Flight-Visual Flight-Getmapping's VFR Photographic Scenery upgrades for FS2002 & 2004'. Any future updates of these Project Modules (if any) will attempt to address and correct these earlier faults. Remaining Scenery Modules in this Project will be developed (wherever possible) with VFR Photographic Scenery and FSTerran enhancement blending taken into account.

FS2002-VFR Adopted Solutions to this Project
********************************************

Where there is a conflict in scenery coordinates, I have developed two different scenery *.bgl files for the module(s) concerned. Users should ensure that the correct *.bgl file is installed depending on the scenery being displayed by FS2002/FS2004. Generally *.bgl files will be for users of FS2002/FS2004 whereas *_Vfr.bgl files will be for users who are running FS2002/FS2004 with VFR Photographic Scenery installed.

The following notes indicate the main problems I have experienced (and addressed) during various modular scenery developments:

****************************
Earlier Scenery: Modules 1-5
****************************

Earlier Scenery Modules (Modules 1 to 5) were specifically designed to enhance the default FS2002/FS2004 scenery around Southampton and accomplish this aim by actually blending well with the default MSFS scenery.

However, with 'Just Flight-Visual Flight-Getmapping's VFR Photographic Scenery upgrades for FS2002 & 2004' installed and running, certain areas produce unacceptable level of 3D-object scenery blending. No attempt (as yet) has been made to correct the observed mis-alignments found in these modules. Users can still use VFR scenery enhancement but must be aware that positional discrepancies in 3D-objects will be noticeable when flying around the area. (Please note that 3D-object positional discrepancies are not found when operating the default FS2002 software.)

***********************
Hythe Scenery: Module 6
***********************

Users installing my 'Hythe' Module and have 'VFR Photographic Scenery - Central & Southern England' upgrade running will find that 3D-objects and landmass features of my Southampton & Regional Area Local Addon Scenery will blend almost seamlessly with the VFR scenery.

However, I have found on occasions with systems running Windows 98 that the moving-objects in the Hythe scenery at times seem to cause conflict with the FS2002's engine model - displaying the dreaded Microsoft 'Error message' window! If this happens, replace the 'Hythe.bgl' file in the ...Hythe\scenery folder with the 'Hythe_Vfr.bgl' file found in the ...Hythe\Vfr folder. The Piertrain and Catamaran Ferry boat will not move in this scenario but an FS2002-VFR error should not occur.

*************************
Calshot Scenery: Module 7
*************************

Calshot Spit and the area around Calshot Spit were found to be mis-aligned when using VFR scenery enhancement. Users must use the scenery 'Calshot.bgl' file if running default FS2002/FS2004. However, with VFR scenery running, users must use the scenery 'Calshot_Vfr.bgl' file in the ... Calshot/scenery folder. Do not have both *.bgl files in the scenery folder otherwise you will see double!

****************************
Sotonwater Scenery: Module 8
****************************

The main conflict between using VFR scenery enhancement and default FS2002-2004 sceneries was the incorrect positioning of certain marine vessels along Southampton Water (seacraft were situated on land rather than in the sea) and mis-alignment of the small oil fuel farm (fuel tanks) situated between Netley and the river Hamble (Warsash) on the northern seashore of Southampton Water. Users who have activated the VFR Photograhic Scenery should replace the Sotonwater.bgl file in the ...\scenery folder with the Sotonwater_Vfr.bgl file found in the ... Sotonwater\Vfr folder. Do not have both *.bgl scenery files in the ... Sotonwater\scenery folder otherwise you will see double!

**********************
Esso Scenery: Module 9
**********************

Slight displacement in world scenery co-ordinates around the Esso area was noted and produced incorrect positioning of oil fuel tanks close to the sea shoreline. Therefore, users who have activated the VFR Photograhic Scenery should replace the Esso.bgl file in the ...Esso\scenery folder with the Esso_Vfr.bgl file found in the ... Esso\Vfr folder. Do not have both *.bgl scenery files in the ...Esso\scenery folder otherwise you will see double!

Note: Users of this scenery should consult their VFR Handbook for optimum FS2002/FS2004 settings.
