This downloaded zip file is the eighth Named Scenery Module of 'Southampton & Regional Area Local Addon Scenery for FS2002'.

The module is VFR and FSTerrain scenery compatible and links with earlier scenery modules of Southampton Docks, Woolston, Weston Shore, Marchwood, Hythe, Calshot (Modules 1-7) and Esso (Fawley Refinery : Module 9). There are 12 Scenery Modules in the complete Project. Each Module displays (or will display) a given scenery area. Flight simmers can build-up the complete or part of the complete scenery in modular stages as and when each module becomes available by the author.

What's in the Scenery
***************************
Module 8 reflects the daily nautical activities that can be seen along Southampton Water and in the Solent. The regional area is brought alive by a range of marine vessels navigating these waters, including sailing yachts, small boats, ferries, luxury cruise liners, oil tankers and container ships as well as historical buildings situated on the northern coastline of Southampton waterway.

The scenery includes P&O's Cruise Liner 'Oriana' approaching Calshot Spit and the Solent as it leaves Southampton Water on its way to sunnier climates. The 'Red Funnel' ferries, which link the Isle-of-Wight to the main land, can also be seen navigating Southampton Water. These ferries transport both passengers and commercial and public vehicles to and from the Island. (If you fly close enough to these ferries you'll see the vehicles being transported.) Also seen sailing these waters is the fast catamaran ferries ('Red Jets') and container and oil tanker ships.

In this scenery the 'Netley Chapel Heritage Centre' building (remnants of the 'Royal Victoria Hospital' founded by Queen Victoria in 1855) is clearly visible nestled in the 200 acre woodland and parkland area of the 'Royal Victoria CountryPark'. The 'Heritage Centre' lies between the Hamble River and Netley on the northern shoreline of Southampton Water. For over 100 years the site was a great military hospital housing wounded troops of many nationalities from the 1914 -1918 Great War. From 1966 the main hospital building was demolished and the site re-opened to the general public as 'The Royal Victoria Garden Park'. A miniature steam railway provides trips around the 'Country Garden Park'. The nearby 13th century abbey ('Netley Abbey') lies in ruins as does 'Netley Castle' which, like Calshot Castle, was built as another of Henry VIII's chain of fortifications in the mid 16th century. Clearly visible further along the northern shoreline from Netley and before reaching the river Hamble is the small fuel oil storage farm at Warsash with its oil-transporting terminal jutting out into Southampton Water. Tankers can be seen moored alongside the terminal as they load & off-load their cargo of fuel oil.

To appreciate the full nautical picture around the waters of Southampton - working docks of Southampton, international container ships, 'QE II' liner departing from the Eastern Docks, berthed P&O's liner 'Arcadia' at dock gate 106, anchored oil tankers along Fawley Refinery's marine terminal, naval shipping at Marchwood Military Port and the Hythe-Southampton ferryboat - earlier modules of my Southampton & Regional Area Scenery must also be installed.

Quick Installation Guide for Module 8: Sotonwater - Southampton Water
*************************************************************************************
Module 8, which is VFR scenery and FSTerrain scenery compatible, extends and links with earlier scenery modules.

1. Unzip the compressed file 'soton02h.zip' into a temporary folder. As you are now reading this text document you must have successfully unzipped the compress file into a temporary folder of your choice. You should have the following folders in your temporary folder:

Soton2k2
...... file_id.diz
Readme1st_m8.doc
Readme1st_m8.txt (this document)
VFR-Soton2k2.txt
Soton28.jpg
Soton2k2.doc (updated version)

...... \Sotonwater
...... \Effects
...... \scenery
...... \texture
...... \Vfr

2. The '... \Sotonwater' folder and its sub-folders must be installed into the existing ... \soton2k2 folder of FS2002.

i.e. C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FS2002\Addon scenery\soton2k2\Sotonwater\ ...

See 3 below on how to handle and install the effect files.

3. Users who have installed and activated VFR scenery should replace the Sotonwater.bgl file in the ...\scenery folder with the Sotonwater_Vfr.bgl file found in the ...\Vfr folder. Do not have both *.bgl scenery files in the ...\scenery folder of FS2002 otherwise you will see double!!

4. To see 'Oriana's' funnel smoke emission place the special effects *.fx file from the ... \Effects folder into the '... \effects' folder of FS2002. The smoke effect is embedded within the Sotonwater.bgl file and uses default FS2002 texture effect files.

5. Inform FS2002 of the new addon scenery by registering it with FS2002. When you fly next you should see the bleak default Southampton Waterway of FS2002 transformed.

Important Note: If you have not installed earlier Modules of my scenery then it will be necessary to place the complete soton2k2 folder & sub-folders into the '... \Addon scenery' folder of FS2002. Files from the '\Effects' folder must be placed in the ... \effects folder of FS2002.
