Small Airstrip Objects SS V1+ FS9 scenery objects
by Sidney Schwartz

V1+ adds specific compatibility with RWY12, ADE9X, and Sbuilder 2.05. If you have already installed the previous version of this library and are NOT using one of these programs to place scenery objects, you do not need to download and install V1+. V1+ also includes the updated textures from SS_Textures_update_2.zip. Installing V1+ should not affect any scenery made using objects from V1.

Most of these objects were suggested by Rob de Vries in the Netherlands, who also provided me with many useful photos on which to base the designs. My thanks to Rob.

Objects include:
* Runway end and side markers in a variety of materials and colors.
* Ground markings of various kinds, including a compass rose, runway & airport closed indicators, and general aviation parking guides.
* Animated wind T, tetrahedron, and wind sock (wind sock by Jörg Dannenberg).
* Segmented circles in two styles and colors, with runway and pattern indicators. (For information on how to use segmented circles, see enclosed FAA document circles.pdf.)
* Weathered asphalt and concrete surfaces.

Most of the objects come in new and weathered versions. In addition, the segmented circles and wind indicators come with and without night lighting. These are standard FS9 scenery objects and can be placed using Instant Scenery or other programs that are able to use FS9 scenery libraries.

======================
Object Placement Notes
======================
1. All the ground markings have a thickness of .02 meters. This is to prevent the "shimmer" effect that can occur with ground objects. You'll get the best results by sinking the objects into the ground about half that distance, or .01 meters.

2. The windsock, wind T and tetrahedron MUST be placed with a heading of zero (0) or they will not rotate with the wind. Also, due to a bug in FS9, you must place at least two of them in the scenery. Since you will most likely need only one of these objects per airstrip, you can hide the second one by placing it inside a building, or even sinking it into the ground until it is no longer visible.

IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT

There are two different installation procedures for this scenery object library, "RWY12" and "Everyone Else". The "RWY12" instructions are ONLY for those who will be using the RWY12 program to place these scenery objects in FS9. Install the library using the "RWY12" procedure ONLY if you are creating your own scenery using RWY12! If you are installing the library because you have downloaded a scenery that requires it, follow the "Everyone Else" installation procedure!

The "Everyone Else" installation procedure is for users of EZ-Scenery, Instant Scenery, and pretty much any other program that can be used to place scenery library objects in FS9, EXCEPT RWY12. It is also for anyone who is not creating their own scenery but is installing this library because they have downloaded a scenery that requires it.

============================
RWY12 Installation Procedure
============================
1. Unzip small_airstrip_objects_ss_V1+.zip to a temporary location. You should end up with four folders: ADE9X, ALL USERS, RWY12, and SBuilder. You should also have a text file called PLEASE READ.txt and some jpg files. The jpg files can be deleted.

2. Open the ALL USERS folder. Move small_airstrip_objects_ss.bgl into your FS9/Addon Scenery/Static Objects Library/Scenery folder. If you are also using the Instant Scenery or EZ-Scenery programs, also move small_airstrip_objects_ss.txt into that same folder, otherwise ignore it.

3. Move all the bmp files into your FS9/Addon Scenery/Static Objects Library/Texture folder.

4. Open the RWY12 folder. Move add_small_airport_objects_ss.xml into your Rwy12 Object Placer/Rwy12 folder. Move the entire add_small_airport_objects_ss folder, not just its contents, into your Rwy12 Object Placer/Rwy12/img folder.

You're done. The next time you run RWY12 small_airport_objects_ss should appear in your Category list, and you should see thumbnails of these objects and be able to place them in FS9.

====================================
Everyone Else Installation Procedure
====================================

Move small_airstrip_objects_ss.bgl into your FS9/Addon Scenery/Scenery folder. If you are using the Instant Scenery or EZ-Scenery programs, also move small_airstrip_objects_ss.txt into that same folder, otherwise ignore it.

3. Move all the bmp files into your FS9/Addon Scenery/Texture folder.

OR: If you know how to create and use scenery folders, you may install these files into a scenery folder of your own.

You're done.

================
ADE9X
================
If you are using ADE9X to place scenery objects in FS9, this will allow you to view thumbnails of these objects while placing them. Do the following AFTER you have completed one of the installation procedures above.

1. Go to wherever you unzipped small_airstrip_objects_ss_V1+.zip and open folder ADE9X.

2. Move the entire small airstrip objects ss.bgl FOLDER, not just its contents, into your Airport Design Editor 9X/FS9/Thumbs folder.

3. If you haven't already, add these objects to the ADE9X Library Object Manager. Consult the ADE9X manual for instructions. Once you've done this, you should see a thumbnail of each object and be able to place the objects in FS9.

========
Sbuilder
========
If you are using Sbuilder to place scenery objects in FS9, do the following AFTER you have completed one of the installation procedures above. This procedure requires that you know how to edit text files.

IMPORTANT: These instructions were tested with Sbuilder version 2.05 revision 6. That is the most current version as of this writing. If you are using an older revision of Sbuilder version 2.05, this may not work. You should go to http://www.ptsim.com/ and download the most current version.

1. Go to wherever you unzipped small_airstrip_objects_ss_V1+.zip and open folder Sbuilder.

2. Move obj_small_airstrip_objects_ss.txt into your Sbuilder/Tools folder.

3. Open folder small_airstrip_objects_ss_sbuilder and move the CONTENTS of the folder into your Sbuilder/Tools/Bmps folder.

4. Using a text editor, open the file objects.txt in your Sbuilder/Tools folder and add the following line:

include=obj_small_airstrip_objects_ss.txt

Save and close objects.txt.

The next time you run Sbuilder and click to place an object, you should see small_airstrip_objects_ss in the Objects Category list on the Library Objects tab, and a thumbnail image of each object.
