The C.202 Folgore was a World War II fighter aircraft built by Macchi Aeronautica and operated by the Regia Aeronautica (Royal Italian Air Force). Considered one of the most beautiful fighters to fly with wartime Axis forces, the C.202 was a development of the earlier C.200 Saetta, with a more powerful German Daimler-Benz DB 601 engine and with an extremely streamlined fuselage. Undoubtedly the best wartime fighter to serve in large numbers with the Regia Aeronautica, the Folgore operated on all fronts in which Italy was involved.
The '202 went into service with the Regia Aeronautica in July 1941 and immediately proved to be an effective and deadly dogfighter. VC only. GMax Models and Skins by Manuele Villa & Italianwings, Flight dynamics by Manuele Villa & Kikko Zanaboni, It also works (Tested) subject to some limitations within in FSX. By Manuele Villa/MVG3D, December 2011.
1) Unzip the file 'c202_v01.ZIP' to a temporary folder.
2) MOVE all three folders called 'AerMacchi C.202 FOLGORE 2W MVG','AerMacchi C.202 FOLGORE 4W MVG'and 'AerMacchi C.202 FOLGORE MVG_COMMON FILES' into your FS9 "Aircraft" (or 'Microsoft Flight SimulatorX\SimObjects\Airplanes') folder.
3) In the 'AerMacchi C.202 FOLGORE MVG_COMMON FILES' folder LOCATE the folder named 'C.202 common_textures_to copy_to_all_txts_folders'.
Now COPY the *contents* into each and every texture folder, in each of the two models, WITHOUT OVERWRITING IF REQUESTED. This may take some time and patience, but if you fail to do it now you will have missing textures later.
Do NOT move or discard the common textures. If you download skins in the future you will need to add the same bitmaps to those later texture folders.
Note that this third (AerMacchi C.202 FOLGORE MVG_COMMON FILES) folder also contains the panels (for all the versions), and the AerMacchi C.202 and Alfa Romeo RA.1000 (Daimler Benz DB601A) engine sounds that will be used by all the of C.202. You do not need to copy the sounds or panels to anywhere. Each model will autolocate these shared panels and sounds.
The AerMacchi C.202 FOLGORE MVG_COMMON FILES folder also contains the'Read before flight' folder containing the short "MACCHI C.202 HISTORY.pdf" needed to know the plane history & development and to locate appropriate bases to fly from and campaigns fought, and a 'Paintkit' folder with layered PSD (PHOTOSHOP) files and their use instructions, needed only by repainters. Do NOT move, delete or rename any of these components.
Make sure you have copied the common textures to each of the many texture folders in the two different C.202 models, before moving to step 4.
4) MOVE the contents of the 'Gauges' folder to the FS9/FSX "Gauges" folder.
5) MOVE the contents of the 'Effects' folder to the FS9/FSX "Effects" folder.
6) MOVE the contents of the 'Sound' folder to the FS9/FSX "Sound" folder.
7) DONE !!!
We wish you many months of pleasure investigating the capabilities and limitations of the AerMacchi C.202 FOLGORE while you learn about and experience the real world head up flying skills of 'pilotage' within a highly detailed and realistically functional virtual environment.
1) - This is an FS9 release. FSX use will not be 'supported'. You must fix any issues arising from differing FSX service pack update status. However in general terms this release 'seems to work without significant problems' in 'appropriatly updated versions of FSX' under both Windows XP and Windows Vista.NOT TESTED WINDOWS 7.
2) - This release provides two different MDLs each of which is defined as a different 'aircraft model' within MSFS. Each MDL also has an appropriate highly detailed VC, each featuring many moving and fully operable parts, with differing weapon systems activation and combat mission capability. After installation you will have two different models of a mid-production AerMacchi C.202 FOLGORE:
A) C.202AS Folgore (2 gun) - use for air superiority fighter mission planning and execution with only two nose mounted 12.7mm MGs, and minimised equipment. This choice aliases light weight flight dynamics for maximum performance and agility in FS9. Compulsory for recce missions and optimal for sweep and top cover missions into enemy airspace at high level.
B) C.202AS Folgore (4 gun) - use for interceptor, scramble and prolonged CAP missions in friendly airspace, else short range / duration low level Close Air Support and counter air missions into enemy airspace with added 7.7mm wing guns and all optional internal equipment. This option provides a radio goniometer for radio navigation above cloud during prolonged all weather CAP, potentially followed by an instrument approach on return to base, and aliases heavier flight dynamics associated with improved equipment, lower performance, less agility, and maximum firepower in FS9.
Inside MSFS each of the two 'Aircraft_models' then has 'Variations' which are different camouflage and markings appropriate to a given location and date. You will have many choices, but first you must select the model of C.202 needed to fly the type of mission you intend to undertake, and only then choose a suitable variation whose markings match your chosen theatre of war you intend to simulate.
3) - This highly detailed simulation package is VC only to maximise realism. This pure 3D simulation will work at any chosen zoom factor, providing any desired field of view, within windows of any aspect ratio.
4) - As in all Italian aircraft of the time full throttle is full aft and ground idle is full forward.
5) - A 2D pop up GPS cheat mode window has been made available, but we strongly encourage you to use the AerMacchi C.202 FOLGORE to learn the real world head up flying skills of 'pilotage'. The real AerMacchi C.202 had no modern navigation equipment(except a radiogoniometer in some of these Mid-Production versions) and none is needed in MSFS either once the skill of pilotage has been learned.
6) - The 'Paintkit' folder contains also a little explanation text (in pdf format) for the right use of different camouflage schemes and colors.
