FS2002 Douglas O-46A

The Douglas O-46A was the last of a line of successful Douglas observation airplanes. It's parasol mounted elliptical wing made for a distinctive look. 90 O-46A's were ordered in 1935 and they remained on duty until 1942. Two were destroyed during the raids on Clark field in the Phillipines early in WW2. I found one color picture of the O-46A on the web some time ago. It is restored to match the paint job for assignment to Wright field prior to WW2. This is the color scheme I chose to match.
I am very grateful to Massimo Tacolli for providing me with excellent 3 views for this project. The Wright field insignia are courtesy of Mick Morrisey.
This FSDSv2 project has the usual moving parts including an accurate canopy slide and a "pop-up" rear machine gun. The Nav lights work with the "L" key. It also has a specular color shine, sometimes called a dynamic shine. I compiled this project directly into FS2002 and have not tried it with any other sim. I know it will not work in CFS2 in its present form.

INSTALLATION: Unzip O46.zip into a temporary folder. Copy the folder douglas O-46 directly into the Aircraft folder of FS2002. Open the gauges folder and copy the contents into the Gauges folder of FS2002. Close everything and fire up FS2002. This plane will show under Douglas as the O-46 in the Aircraft selection list.

PANEL and SOUND: I have included a vintage style panel with what I thought were appropriate gauges for the late '30's time frame. I aliased the Cessna 182 sound to save file space. Feel free to change either or both to a panel and sound of your choice.

LEGAL: This project is released as freeware. You may modify it, repaint it, etc., upload to another website as long as it is not for profit. You need my written permission to use any of these files for commercial purposes; otherwise just give me credit for the original design. This airplane should not hurt your computer but I am not responsible if it causes problems.

Enjoy! Paul Clawson
