Colonial Viper for CFS
______________________

To install:

1.Un-zip file "BSGviper" to empty folder.

2.Move folder "viper2" to the CFS "aircraft" folder.

3.Move all Gau. files to the "gauges" folder of your main CFS directory.

4. Have Fun!

About the Aircraft.

Flying hints.

Take-0ff:

1.Flaps down (The viper has only two flap positions, down and up.

2.Throttle full Off.

3. Start engine(aircraft may roll forward a few feet upon after start-up.

4. Throttle full on.

5. Upon reaching 150 kts pull back on stick. She'll just about jump off the runway.

6. Raise gear and after attaining cruise altitude, raise flaps. You'll start to pick up speed quickly and will soon reach maximum cruise speed.

Using Reverse thrusters:

Hit the "/" key to engage reverse thrusters. You will rapidly lose air speed even at full throttle. Useful for shaking a bandit from your tail. Hit the "/" again to disengage reverse thrust.

Landing:

1. Throttle at 1/2

2. Engage reverse thrusters ("/" key)

3. Once airspeed drops below 200 kts, disengage reverse thrusters.

4. lower flaps and landing gear.

6. Adjust Additude and throttle to maintain an airspeed of +150 kts while maintaining glide path.

7. Once runway is made, kill throttle.

8. Upon touchdown, engage reverse thrusters and apply brakes.

This should get you down in one piece. But feel free to experiment with
other flaps/reverse thrust/throttle combinations.

Design Notes
____________

This is my first attempt at designing an aircraft, that being the case, you might wonder why I chose the particuliar aircraft I did. The reasons are threefold:

1. It doesn't seem as if anyone else had done one before. I felt that in this way I could offer something unique and not just a re-do of something a lot of other people had already done.

2. I really enjoyed the Battlestar Galactica series when it was on and Like the look of the viper.

3 IT DOESN"T SEEM AS IF ANYONE ELSE HAD DONE ONE BEFORE. Therefore it wont look shoddy in comparision to all the other versions more experienced modelers are already offering.

The Panel

The panel is patterned after photos of the cockpit refit kit made for the original Revel plastic model of the viper. The details weren't too clear, but I got a good idea of the basic lay-out. The gauge positions were extrapolated from brief glimpses from reruns of the show.
The only gauge that is somewhat "authentic" is the attitude indicator.
The airspeed and altitude gauges are there just as basic flight instruments needed for flight and don't represent the instruments that were in the actual Viper Cockpit.

The view screen that takes up most of the panel was the scanner/targeting computer.

The panel bitmap itself was made using the Moray/POV-Ray ray-tracing modeling program.

The Viper's turbo lasers pack quite a wallop, so don't be surprised if it doesn't take much to shoot down an opponent.
