PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE INSTALLING SCENERY!

General
-------

Well it's time to let my latest baby go. I am sure this represents one of the largest scenery series ever released for FS helicopters as it covers much of the state of Colorado with small isolated scenery areas.

PLEASE READ THIS FILE BEFORE INSTALLING!!!

I say this because in my last series, people were emailing me asking questions that were answered 10 times in the readme files. Be patient and ensure you get it installed correctly.

Installation
------------

Note: If you have never installed scenery before, you can download the Beulah Series installment #1. It contains more general detailed install info. There are also tutorials on "simviation.com".

Unzip the "coloseries.zip" file into whatever directory you desire. My Colorado scenery is located in "Colorado Scenery" in my 2002 main directory (the directory that has "ADDON SCENERY").

Start FS2002 and "add" the scenery from the appropriate screen. Exit FS2002 and add the flatten commands in "flatten.txt" to your "scenery.cfg" file. They should be appended at the end of the area containing the scenery name you just created.

Restart FS2002. If you go to airport "KLXV" Lake County, there should be a scenery area south of the airport.

Scenery Areas
-------------

The scenery in this offering is broken into 4 basic areas. The areas are Lake County, Durango, Grandby and Aspen. A description of each area follows.

--Lake County -- Lake County airport (KLXV) is home to an EMS and Fire Rescue heliport. South of the airport is a fictional tourist town of Lakeview (NDB 505). South of Lakeview is a yacht with landable deck. Fly southeast to the next lake and find a ditched aircraft. Lakeview has two landing pads, one behind the general store and the other at the lake cabins (See Lakeview.jpg and Lakeview1.jpg).

Fly west from Lakeview to the first small mountain and land at the mountain top hotel. From Lakeview, tune your NDB to 301 and fly to a mountaintop chateau. You may continue north to various chateaus and a radio station by tuning in order to NDB 301(above),302,307,310,303,304. Note: sometimes you may have to contunue flying north for awhile to pick up the next station.

When you complete the journey to the last chateau (304), you can fly either to Grandby (502) or to McElroy (507).

Finally, to the SSE of Lakeview and beyond the air crash is a small lake with two residences (NDB 308) near airport (7V1). One residence has an air strip and helipad, the other has a small helipad on the boat dock.

--Grandby -- The airport at Grandby houses an EMS helipad. The town of Grandby is north of the airport. See Grandby.jpg and Grandby1.jpg. East of town is a car fire. To the NE is a ship fire and in the lake to the NNW is a helicopter crash with life raft. Along the bank of this lake is Grandby Clinic with a pier helipad. The small hospital in Grandby has a NDB at 502.

West of Grandby is the fictional college town of McElroy next to airport 20v. See McElroy.jpg. McElroy has a college with stadium, bus station, restraunt, apartments, dorms, houses with helipads, three hospitals, commercial area and mall.

NW of McElroy is Steamboat Springs with a simple airport near the airport. West of Steamboat is Yampa Valley Heliport not far from the Yampa Valley Airport (KHDN). There is another heliport north of Eagle County airport (KEGE). Flying south from KEGE takes you into the Aspen scenery area!!

Finally, there is another small hospital NE of Laramie airport in Laramie wyoming if you're looking for a nice cross country flight. Larmis is north of Grandby a distance (KLAR).

In the mountains south of Grandby are a Helicopter crash on a mountain side
with survivors. When you get close, NDB 777 will guide you to the scene. Likewise to the SW is a Cessna crash with survivors. NDB 777 will work for that crash as well. The Cessna is many miles from Grandby.

--Aspen/Gunnison -- The next scenery area is south of Aspen, Colorado. The town for the area is at Buckhorn (3V6). See Buckhorn.jpg and Buckhorn1.jpg. From the Eagle County airport (KEGE) in the Grandby scenery above you may also fly south toward Aspen (KASE) then south to (3V6).

Buckhorn has a forrest fire, a building fire and an ultralight crash. The town has a small heliport, a fire station helo pad, and a pad at the hospital with a NDB of 503. Near the forrest fire is a base camp with an air strip and helipad.

Between Buckhorn and the Aspen airport ( North of Buckhorn) is a mountaintop Forrestry station (NDB 501) with helipad. There is also a cabin with helipad and a great view!!

North of Aspen airport is a gorge with a crashed Baloon giving you a "cliff rescue". Continuing further north takes you back to Eagle County airport.

Flying south from Buckhorn Hospital is the town of Gunnison, Colorado near airport (KGUC). I have created a small portion of the town on the west side of the airport. Let me know what you think.

Flying SW from KGUC takes you into the next scenery area: Durango!!

--Durango -- If you fly from Gunnison (KGUC) SW you will come to the West Colorado Meical Center (fictional) with a NDB of 312. It is next to airport (KTEX). See Colomed.jpg. There are three hospitals, a medical supply manufacturer, and several businesses. There is also a fire station with training tower.

Fly south from West Colorado Medical Center and Telluride to Val Air (CD82) for a reported helicopter on fire at the airfield. Continuing south takes you to Durango.

Durango Airport (KDRO) has a helipad and north of the airport is an area I call "Charlie's Farm". See CYFarm.jpg. There is a little town associated with my farm which has the normal tourist traps, hardware store and motel. There is an LZ at the motel for a medical call.

Just to the NNW of Charlie's Farm is a large brush fire with a base camp and LZ. and just to the NW of the fire is Animas Airport with a Helipad. Fly east from Animas and look for a downed DC3 that had to land in a farm field. Follow the road north of my farm to the east and you will discover a small rural town with several cabins around and a fire tower. North of the fire tower across an open area is another woods fire. When you find the small rural town, set your NDB to 205 and continue to fly east until you aquire signal. Follow the NDB to my own mountain chalet and as you land on the helipad, my wife Joan and I will be there to greet you!

Flying back to Animas airport and then north, follow the roads north out of town and look for a lost camper. You'll see the camper's vehicle near the end of a road with the camper being a little east of the vehicle location. Don't lose patience!!

Finally, explore south of Durango into New Mexico as you look for a reported downed aircraft.

A Word About the Scenery
-------------------------
There are many suprises waiting for you in this scenery. In my description above, I tried to mention the important parts without giving anything away. It took about 3 months to do this scenery and I will be taking a extended break now. Feel free to email me at "birddawg205@hotmail.com" with your comments. I hope you enjoy!!!

Finally

Although I did all this scenery, the real credit goes to the folks who did all the Public Domain "api" files included. I have included all the needed textures to run this scenery. Thanks to all of you great folks who make the "api" files of houses, cars, planes, etc that give us poor scenery cobblers something to work with!!!!
