INSTALLATION:

Execute SETUP.EXE and follow the instructions. All required files will be
installed and the SCENERY.CFG updated to activate the Central California
Coast scenery.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Paso Robles PRB (836'MSL):
The field has two uncontrolled runways; no tower. There is a VORTAC on the
field between the runways. AM Radio KPRL, (actually 1230 kHz) can be used
for ADF by tuning in 230 kHz.
PRB Area NavAids/Comm:
PRB VORTAC: 114.3 mHz PRB
AM Radio: 230 kHz KPRL

Atascadero (1028'MSL):
No airport but the town is laid out as accurately as possible. You could fly
a float plane off Atascadero Lake at your own risk. To get there you can
click on World, Go To Airport, Select Search Add-On Scenery, select
Atascadero and then Atascadero Lake SW End in the Scenery Area.

San Luis Obispo SBP (212'MSL):
SBP has two controlled runways with an ILS system on runway 11. I added a
LOM at the outer marker. This is bogus and not real life. AM radio station
KVEC can be used with your ADF. Northwest of the field you'll see Laguna Lake
and the Madonna Inn. You can put of float plane on the lake by using the
Search Add-On Scenery feature as above.
SBP Area NavAids/Comm:
SBP ILS 11: 109.7 mHz I-SBP
LOM: 555 kHz SB
SBP ATIS: 120.6 mHz
AM Radio: 920 kHz KVEC

Morro Bay (3'MSL):
Includes the old volcanic plug dome Morro Rock, the Duke steam power plant,
golf course, waterfront and several boats in the bay. Look for the paddle-
wheeler "Tiger's Folly" that tours the bay. No NavAids or airport but the
bay is great for float plane operations (for FlightSim only!). You can plant
your float plane on the bay by selecting it in the Search Add-On Scenery
feature. Up the beach to the north is the little town of Cayucos with its
pier.

Hearst Castle (1,360'MSL), Hearst Strip and San Simeon Light:
Hearst strip is designated as Private and is just below the castle. Use the
Search Add-On Scenery feature to put yourself on the runway. You can also
put a chopper on the parking lot at the castle by selecting Hearst Castle.
Up the coast a short ways is the San Simeon Lighthouse.

Oceano L52 (14'MSL) and San Luis Obispo Bay:
Oceano is an uncontrolled single runway field. There are no NavAids
available. Following the coast to the north of the field you fly over Avila
Beach, Port San Luis, San Luis Obispo lighthouse at Point San Luis and the
Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant.

Santa Maria SMX (272'MSL):
Santa Maria is south of San Luis Obispo. The airport at Santa Maria has two
controlled runways and an ILS system on runway 12. Guadalupe VOR is located
about 5 miles off the end of the ILS runway.
SMX NavAids/Comm:
SMX ILS 12: 108.9 mHz I-SMX
SMX ATIS: 121.15 mHz
Guadalupe VOR: 111.0 mHz GLJ

Lompoc LPC (90'MSL):
About 14 miles south of Santa Maria is the town and airport of Lompoc. The
single runway is uncontrolled but there is an NDB on the field.
LPC NavAids/Comm:
Lompoc NDB 223 kHz LPC

Vandenberg Air Force Base VBG (370'MSL):
VBG is located about 6.5 miles northwest of Lompoc. VBG has an ILS on both
ends of the single 10,000 foot controlled concrete runway. They are, in real
life, both on the same frequency, 110.1 mHz and fired up as needed. That
doesn't work well in FS so I changed one end, runway 12, to 110.2 mHz. There
is a TACAN next to the runway. Only the DME portion of the TACAN is avail-
able in FS2K2. Tuning the VOR receiver to 112.25 mHz will tune the TACAN to
channel 59y and make the DME available.
VBG NavAids/Comm:
Runway 12 ILS 110.2 mHz I-VBG
Runway 30 ILS 110.1 mHz I-VBG
TACAN Ch59y 112.25 mHz VBG

Santa Ynez IZA (674'MSL):
Santa Ynez is 26 miles east of Vandenberg AFB. You can tune in the Santa Ynez
NDB and use your ADF to find your way to the airport. It's an uncontrolled
single runway field located northwest of Santa Barbara and west of Lake
Cachuma. The lake is OK for float planes (in FS only). Use Search Add-On
Scenery to get there. There's a real dusty dirt strip east of IZA toward the
lake.
IZA NavAids/Comm:
Santa Ynez NDB 394 kHz IZA

Santa Barbara SBA (10'MSL):

Santa Barbara is about 16NM, 118 degrees over the mountains from Santa Ynez.
The airport at Santa Barbara has three controlled runways with an ILS system
on runway 12. Offshore there is an oil platform and drilling ship. They are
wonderful creations by Steve Chase and worth a visit. Both have landable
helicopter pads and fictional NDB's. Be careful you don't get too close to
the edge of the platforms or you'll be in the sea. About 18 miles down the
coast (East actually) you'll come to the Santa Barbara harbor. Search Add-On
Scenery will put you in the harbor or on the helipad at SBA Airport. You'll
have to fly to the offshore oil rigs but the NDB's will help you find them.
SBA NavAids/Comm:
Runway 12 ILS 110.3 mHz I-SBA
SBA ATIS 132.65 mHz
Platform NDB 221 kHz MAUI
Ship NDB 222 kHz FPSO

NOTES:

* Frame Rates: My goal with this scenery was to have a minimum of 10 FPS on
approach to the most detailed area (SBP) with all display sliders maxed.
This is on my P3-1000/Nvidia 2 GTS 64Meg video board. You may increase your
frame rates at most of the airports in this scenery by adjusting the Scenery
Complexity slider to remove static aircraft etc. as follows:
SETTING EFFECT
Very Dense Everything present, all static aircraft, etc.
Dense Some static aircraft, lose some structures.
Normal Only low detail static aircraft, lose many structures.
There is no difference between using Very Dense or Extremely Dense with this
scenery and no noticable difference in the default scenery that I can see.

* I haven't figured out how to use Microsoft's dynamic water textures so you
will probably notice that the water in the fishing boat harbor area in Morro
Bay doesn't look all that great. I hope to be able to do something about
that and other things I'm not satisfied with in the future.

* I took some liberties just for fun. I'll probably take some heat for the
Saturn V rocket and buffs at Vandenberg AFB. I think the Saturn V is a
beautiful rocket and who knows where the B-52's will be these days.
