1) UK 2000 Scenery
------------------

UK 2000 is a scenery collection which will cover the entire United Kingdom in
remarkable detail and quality. For many year nows there has not been any good scenery
for the UK, freeware or commercial, yes it has improved and Europe 3 by Apollo may be
the best to date along with some freeware airports which are also pretty good, but the
scenery here will hopefuly retire them to the back shelf!

What so special?

The most impressive part of UK2000 is the Airports, I've been told that the
airports are amonst the best in the world!, you will be amazed at the detail and accuracy
and will spent hours just exploring them. It also contain terrain meshed scenery with cliffs
and accurate bitmaps.

Package Details:
UK 2000 Part 1 'Channel Islands' V2 Shareware OUT NOW
UK 2000 Part 2 'Southern England' Exp 01/04/2000
UK 2000 Part 3 'Midlands & Wales' TBA
UK 2000 Part 4 'N. England & N.Ireland TBA
UK 2000 Part 5 'Scotland' TBA

(Static aircraft models which will be compatible will be made available separately and are always
FREEWARE, and Credit should go to original Model and Texture designers, Theses scenery files are
NOT a Part of the UK2000 package and are only available via the Internet)

-----------------------------------
2) UK 2000 Part 1 'Channel Islands'
-----------------------------------

The Channels Islands are situated west of the Brest peninsular in northern France,
but are a part of the UK. The biggest island is Jersey and its airport serves most
UK cites, France and many european countries. Second biggest is Guernsey with its
famous glass houses which covers 15% of the land. Guernseys airport is about half
as busy Jersey but maintains a busy network of passenger and freight flights. Finally
there's Alderney whos airport is mainly grass, it has regular flights using Aurigny
Trilanders and Sh360. There are many smaller islands like Herm and Sark which
are also represented. This shareware version includes terrain meshing with the airports
ON TOP of the hills!, and the visual effect of sitting on top of a hill is pretty good,
the effect is greatest at Alderney.

Features:
Terrain model uses specific textures for all areas
All buildings accuratly modeled and textured
Some Hangers doors open and close
Taxiway/stand markings that are realistic
BRITISH runway markings
Very detailed holding points with guard lights (Wig Wags)
Aircraft guidense 'AGNIS' boards at EGJJ
'Mike' the Marshaller at all airports
Radars
Night lighting affects and transparent terminal glass
Airport vehicles
Perameter fencing, walls, trees and bushes
Light aircraft models (Large static aircraft found in UK2ST1.ZIP, FREEWARE)

********TURN SCENERY DENSITY TO MAX TO SEE ALL DETAILS*******

British runways markings are used in this scenery, which has a 12 bar threshold (piano),
2 digit runway ID (08 not 8), distance markers to UK specs, and a TDZ to uk specs.
The 'AGNIS' at Jersey is not the actual one used, aircraft guidense systems vary
from airport to airport, and the one used is the only one I had details of.
'Mike' the Marshaller can be found at the airports and will attempt to guide you
in to certains stands, being a trainee, Mike sometimes gets his arms waving the
wrong way, but he's good for a laugh!

-----------------------------------
3) Installation
-----------------------------------
This package is made for FS98 and FS2000 users, but the files are NOT the same for
each version, so it was required to make seperate groups of files.
I will admit this installation is not 'quick and simple', but I do not have programming
know how to make a simple Install program, but I hope the description below is
easy to understand.

The UK2000 Part 1 ZIP should be extracted to a temparry folder, once extracted
you should have 4 ZIP files and several readmes:
\Texture.zip
\FS98BGLS.ZIP
\FS2KBGLS.ZIP
\EXTRAS.ZIP

Now make the scenery folders within FS98 or FS2000 like this:

../scenery/UK2000p1/scenery
../scenery/UK2000p1/texture

(To make folders use your file explorer to find the location of you FS MAIN scenery folder
open that folder, then right click and select 'New' > 'Folder')

Now if you use FS98 extract the FS98BGL.ZIP to the UK2000p1/scenery folder and extract the
texture.zip to your UK2000p1/texture folder.

If you use FS2000 extract the FS2KBGL.ZIP to the UK2000p1/scenery folder and extract the
texture.zip to your UK2000p1/texture folder.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
See the readme.txt within the Extras.ZIP for file details in that ZIP
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

*******FS98 ONLY******
Now you need to install this new folder into the FS98 world database.
1) Start FS98
2) Click 'World' then Scenery Library
3) It may ask you confirm if so Click OK
4) Then Click 'Files' then 'Add'
5) In the 'scenery area path' paste in this
=:\=\scenery\uk2000\SCENERY\*.BGL
6) In the scenery Area title paste this
'UK 2000 Scenery'
7) Select area type Regional
8) AND THEN CLICK SCENERY AREA ACTIVE!
9) When done, CLick OK several times to get out of it

10) Now select WORLD, GOTO ... Airports, the scenery has entries in the
'Scenery from FS6 and before' stile. So select 'Scenery from FS6.0 and before'
find UK 2000 Part1 and a list of positions will appear on the left, I recommended starting at
the EGJJ Jersey entry and have a look around.

(There are also entries within the FS98 airport GOTO menu, but I hate that one!)

11) Fly away and enjoy!

*******FS2000 ONLY********
IMPORTANT!!
This scenery needs to'flatten' the default FS2000 scenery around the default Channel Islands, this
is done by edited the scenery.cfg file found within the FS2000 folder. However there is
a bug within FS2000!, if you paste in the Flatten command and start FS2000 it works fine, but
if you should at any time access the Scenery menu within FS2000 (rather than edit the scenery.cfg,
which does the same job) FS2000 will delele all the flatten commands, meaning you have to exit,
edit it again and restart FS2000 :(

The Good news is that microsoft have released a patch which will fix this and other bugs,
visit http://www.microsoft.com/games/fs2000/downloads_fsupdate.htm to download. The bad news its 6.6MB!

To install the scenery folder paste this text into the scenery.cfg
Flatten.0=-2,N49 59,W002 48,N49 59,W001 56,N49 07,W001 56,N49 07,W002 48

You can also choose not to use my Mesh scenery which will remove the need to flatten the
FS2000 scenery as described above. To do this remove the file called uk2p1a.bgl

***********************

This scenery is compaitable with the default FS98 world scenery, FS98 Europe scenery, 'Great
Britain' by Instead Access, England & Wales by Instead Access,Europe 2 ,ENGLAND1.ZIP and the
default FS2000 world scenery.

This scenery is very detailed, however I have spent a lot of time to insure it
runs smoothly on a 'average' FS98 system.

For those people who suffer from poor frame rates, then all the scenery is density sensitive,
so change to a lower density to improve things, but I would recommend buying a new PC!

The frame rates on FS2000 are not that good on P333 :(, this is not really my scenery but FS2000
in general, you can if you wish remove my terrain mesh file (uk2p1a.bgl) and the airports
will work with default FS2000 mesh scenery. I get about 10FPS when landing at the airports on
my P333(FS2000 patch installed)

There is also a static aircraft scenery file uk1stat.ZIP, found here
http://www.fltman.freeuk.com/uk1stat.zip, this is Freeware and was made to fit into my
scenery, but is NOT a part of it. I would however highly recommend installing this if
your PC is man enough for the job.

The scenery has been tested using FS98 and FS2000 and all seems well, it 99% works
with CFS aswell.

known bugs:
----------

;***********FS2000 users see FS2KREAD.txt for FS2000 BUGS!!********************

The only trouble is bleed through in a few places, but providing you
fly around normally and don't slew to every corner, it shouldn't be that noticeable.
The next terrain system I'm working on will improve this bleed through.

Sometimes the water texture will change to a horrible looking blobs!, this
is the FS98 engine, to get it back to the currect effect, just look down, then
look forward again.

CFS Note:
---------
This scenery was designed for FS98 and FS2000, but could be used with CFS, but
there are some areas which don't work well.

****************NOTE FOR FS5.1 AND FSFW95 USERS***************
IT is very unlikely to work, due to the density of scenery but
if you wish to try, then set the density to sparse and even remove
one of EGJJ, EGJB or EGJA airport files and just keep the airport
that your using.
**************************************************************

--------------------------------
4) Register your Shareware copy
--------------------------------

You may use this scenery for 30days without registering, after this period
you need to register or delete the scenery. It will cost $17 or £10 to register your
copy and by doing so you will recieve a patch file to remove the 'Shareware' brick
wall at the airports and will be entitled to any updates for this scenery that
are made in the future.

You can register online by SECURE a credit card service arranged by the 'Soft Shop'
at this URL http://www.soft-shop.com/cgi-bin/order.html?gsummons

Or Visit my web site to see find out how to register by mail and cheque at
http://www.fltman.force9.co.uk/smagic/register.htm

Why Shareware?
This scenery represents a lot of work, I will still be releaseing
Freeware work as well, but I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for something
in return as so many users concider my work to be amongst the best in the world. It will
also help fund any future scenery work as I'm finding that I need to visit all the
airfields I make, which doesn't come cheap!

6) About the Designer and contacts
-------------------------------------

I've been doing 3D design work ever since 1988, when I made a 3D game for the
ATARI ST, I started to design FS scenery last year in 1998 and have made some
'test' work EGHH98V2.ZIP, EGTE98V1.ZIP and EGHI99V2.ZIP these Freeware files represent
my learning curve but are still very good. Most of my work is hand writen SCASM macros
and the terrain grid layout is also hand written, however I do use a lot of my own software
tools (Yes I'm a programmer too) to make the rest. Taxi lines, fences, trees ect all use
a special program tool that creates these structures. The finish scasm code is compiled
with version 2.01 found in AS&D, AS&D is used for some parts as well.

I'm always improving, already I've decided to modify the terrain system for the next release,
UK 2000 part2 which will see a finer resolution, and hopefuly a better pallete of colours.

Like what you see? want more?
-----------------------------
If there's anyone interested in my stile of work (commercial or private) then
let me know. I can produce any 3D object for a small fee, or an entire airport
for bigger one!.

Email: Gary@fltman.force9.co.uk

I have a web site to show off my scenery:
http://www.fltman.force9.co.uk/smagic

I also run a free 'Virtual airline' with nearly 100 pilots, it's called 'UK Direct'
http://www.fltman.force9.co.uk/

If you just want to have a chat about the scenery, I welcome all comments and I can
offer some help, but please to no ask for my programs or macros as I will have
to refuse. Eventually some of my macros will made available but not for some time.

----------------
7) HELP NEEDED!
----------------

To produce top quailty airports you need information and photographs,
so if you would like to help me in creating the airports for the rest of UK, then please
let me know. What I need more than anything else is up to date photographs. The charts
are easy to come by, but modeling the buildings requires images to work from. If
you do help, then you will recieve the scenery free of charge and your name
added to the credits.

----------------
8) Problems?
----------------

If you have a problem, then please look at the FAQ web page, before emailing
me, but if it doesn't answer your question then I'll be happy to hear from you.

-----------------------
8) Legal and Copyright
-----------------------
This software and all files contained within the 'UK 2000 Part1'ZIP file is Copyright

for your own work without my permission. You may NOT 'dis-assemble' the BGL files and
extract the models, I will know!. You may included this on CD-ROM, provided you inform
before hand. You may use this Shareware software for 30Days only, then you need to register
or delete it.

This scenery should not damage your PC and software in anyway, but even if you
believe it has, I do not except any responsibility, you use it entirely at your own risk
