System requirements:
-------------------
Recommanding a minimum system requirements to run this scenery is not obvious. We use it on a Pentium III 450 MHz and an AMD Athlon 700 MHz and it runs very well.
Scenery description:
-------------------
This beta version of Quebec 2000 contains 2 of the major airports within the province of Quebec (Canada).
Even if those airports are not 100% complete, this beta version works fine. We make it available in response to a request from the MONTREAL FIR division of SATCAN, for their May 28th 2000 "Flyin P.Q." event.
We worked on rendering the airports as accurately as possible. This includes very detailed and complete airports features: runways, taxiways, flying clubs ramp, terminal buildings, boarding gates, PAPI, VASIS, ILS, taxiway signs, etc... as well as custom made buidings and textures with light effects at night.
More airports will be added in future versions.
INSTALLATION:
============
SECTION 1: SCENERY REQUIREMENTS
A) Required common files : (Available at our Web site)
You must get the following shared files and install them into the indicated directory. Those files are used by many "freeware" sceneries for Flight Simulator. May be you already have them.
- Airport 2.02 texture files in Flight Simulator "Texture".
- ASD 2.0 textures in Flight Simulator "Texture".
B) Required FS2000 CD-ROM sceneries :
The following sceneries serve as background to our scenery. Make sure they are installed.
- Eastern Canada Covers Eastern Quebec
- Northeastern Canada Covers Northerneastern Quebec
- US Great Lakes Region Covers Western Quebec
- Northeastern US Covers Southwestern Quebec
This may be verified with FS2000 menu "World/Scenery Library..." by clicking on the "Files" button. You will then see a list of installed sceneries.
The reason why some of Quebec "default" scenery has been put in US areas by Microsoft, instead of Canada, is unknown to us.
SECTION 2: INSTALLING QUEBEC 2000
Quebec 2000 requires a manual installation.
STEP-1:
Create the following directory structure on your hard drive, where you want to store the scenery.
- a " Quebec 2000" folder
- a " Scenery " sub-folder
- a " Texture " sub-folder
Example : C:\Quebec 2000
\Scenery
\Texture
STEP-2:
Unzip "qb2k_b1.zip" in an empty temporary folder. You will get additional ZIP files that you will use in step 3.
STEP-3:
Unzip the following ZIP files into their respective folder :
- qb2k_fs.zip into FS2000's " Texture " folder.
- qb2k_txr.zip into " Quebec 2000\Texture "
- qb2k_bgl.zip into " Quebec 2000\Scenery "
While copying the files into FS2000's main "Texture" folder, it is possible that some of those files be already present if they are used by another scenery previously installed. If Windows ask you if you want to replace an already existing file, you may answer "Yes to all". Those files were not altered by us, so they are identical to their respective author's original.
STEP-4:
You must sort by name the .BGL files contained in the "Quebec 2000\Scenery" folder using a sorting utility. This step is important in order for FS2000 to read them in the proper order, thence avoiding some scenery display problems. Sorting using Windows Explorer view does not have the proper effect, since it does not affect the order of the files in the FAT (File Allocation Table) of the hard drive. Only a sorting utility (like the Freeware FolderSort) can do it properly.
This Freeware utility is available from our Web site (see address at the end of this document).
STEP-5:
After installation is completed, you must activate the scenery in Flight Simulator's Scenery Library.
Start Flight Simulator 2000.
1. Choose the menu item "World/Scenery Library".
2. Click on "Add Files".
3. Browse to your "Quebec 2000" directory.
4. Under "Scenery Area Title", type "Quebec 2000".
5. Click "OK".
NOTE: The scenery area may be moved to a priority other than " 1 ", but you must make sure that the priority is higher (lower value) than the default Microsoft scenery areas stated in the requirements section.
SECTION 3: SELECTING A QUEBEC AIRPORT IN FS2000
- Choose "World/Go to Airport..."
- Select "Scenery from FS95 and before",
- Choose "Quebec 2000" and select your airport.
You may also select the airport using the "Search places" option, but the initial aircraft position might be a little offset from the runway, since it uses Microsoft's default positions. If you prefer this manner, select the following parameter in the "Go to Airport ..." right pane window;
- Global Region: North America
- Country/Region: Canada
- State/Province: Quebec
This is FREEWARE scenery and shall remain as such.
These files are supplied AS-IS. No warranties or guarantees are implied or supplied.
