IBN / PABN - Devils Mountain Lodge Airport, Nabesna, AK, US
===================================================================

Devils Mountain Lodge Airport is an airport located two nautical miles (4 km) north of the central business district of Nabesna, Alaska. It is owned by Devils Mountain Lodge.

Devils Mountain Lodge Airport has one runway designated 14/32 with a gravel and dirt surface measuring 2,000 by 40 feet (610 x 12 m). For the 12-month period ending October 15, 1975, the airport had 1,200 aircraft operations, an average of 100 per month: 58% general aviation and 42% air taxi.

Devil's Mountain Lodge is nestled in the heart of the Wrangell Mountains, on the north side of the Wrangell St-Elias National Park, at the end of the Nabesna Road. A diamond in the rough, Devil's Mountain Lodge is one of the few private in holdings within the Park.

Out front is the real and active airstrip where the bush airplanes work. The valiant Piper Supercub, sturdy and reliable, was the only airplane that could truly "tame" the great Alaskan wilderness. They are still valued today and are widely used to access remote areas which are otherwise inaccessible. Always exciting to watch them fly, these small planes can haul miners, geologists, hikers, campers, fishermen, hunters, and freight to places where there are no airports. Experienced bush pilots can pick out a spot to land along a river, on the side of a mountain, in a dry lake bed, or anyplace that they can set down safely between obstacles and take off again! They are also used to make sightseeing trips with visitors and guests, able to be flown safely at slower speeds and lower altitudes in order to see and experience more of Alaska's beautiful wilderness.
