ABOUT THE AIRPORT:

Alexandria Airport serves Pittstown and Hunterdon County and is owned by Leah Fritsche. The airport has more than one runway. The longest is a paved runway extending 2550 feet. The facility is at an elevation of 480 feet at a distance of about 2 miles from Pittstown.
Alexandria Field is home to over 100 planes, and has an active flight school and maintenance shop.[1]

Alexandria Field was built by brothers, William and Paul Fritsche in 1944. Over sixty years ago, cows and airplanes cohabited on the rural strips of runway situated on property owned by the family since the mid - 1800’s. The Fritsches, a family of entrepreneurs, have through the generations initiated a number of highly successful enterprises on the property; a dairy business, the first successful Polled Hereford herd in New Jersey, one of the earliest Christmas tree farms in the state, home of the Magic of Alexandria Balloon Festival for 10 years and currently N85 is a general aviation facility with an active Airpark.

Today Alexandria Field is owned and operated by two of Bill’s children: Will Fritsche and Linda Fritsche Castner. The airport received the Fred L. Wehran Aviation Achievement Award in 1995 for 50 years in business and for being the site of a major east coast balloon festival. In 2004 William Melvin Fritsche was inducted into the New Jersey Aviation Hall of Fame for his contributions to General Aviation.

ABOUT THE SCENERY:

This scenery came about by the inspiration of James Tiedeman's AFCAD2 file of Alexandria (n85afcad.zip). I think it's a very interesting facility. In FS9, there is a challenging take off from runway 8 ot sorts. Watch out for the high tension structure slightly off to the right. Also, there are trees on the approach to runway 8 so don't get too low or else. The AI flights are default for two of them and I have included one aircraft that pulls a banner. It's destination is Somerset Airport, 16nm to the east. I have also included the new signs I created for the airport. The AI aircraft should depart forward (It works on my system). I'm still new at this so if you are not seeing a forward departure, please let me know.

There is a list of ez libraries with which I created this scenery. I hope you enjoy the scenery. Blue skies and happy landings!

Scenery Libraries:

Here is a list of the libraries I used for this scenery. However, I recommend you look at the list following this one and download the libraries you do not have.

lsigns_2.zip thangars.zip ramplit3.zip ez-extra-objects-1.zip lens_ez_scenery.zip lens_ez_scenery_textures.zip ez-extra-objects-1-textures.zip small_airport_objects_2.zip ezhousz.zip
rwy12_lib1_v1.2.zip(rwy12) ga_planes_1.zip rwy12_lib2_v1.2.zip(rwy12)
db_parkinglots.zip trees_v3.zip kpln_fs9.zip*

*I downloaded this scenery by Matthias Rauh and the hangars_lib.bgl file was included. EZ Scenery picked up on the file and offered it as scenery objects from within the ez scenery placement program.

NOTE: Those zip files that are more than 8 characters long can be downloaded from SurClaro.com. SurClaro restricts the zip names to 8 characters.

EZ SCENERY OBJECTS FILE LIST....

This is a compiled list of scenery object files that can be used in FS2004 with sceneries that require EZ-Scenery Objects.. These files can be found at the AVSIM Files Library... Many are also availible at FlightSim..

The list by Ray Lunning and John Loney gives the name of the author and the File name.. I have downloaded each of these to my EZ Objects Library and can verify that they are current and availible...

There are many more EZ Objects Files availible.. We have just listed those which We have downloaded and which are the most commonly used..

You "DO NOT" need to have the ABACUS EZ-SCENERY or the RWY12 programs installed to use the objects...However, you will need most if not all of these files when you download Airport sceneries that use these objects... I have created an EZ Objects Library folder in my FS9\Addon Scenery folder..All the *.bgl, *.xml and *.txt files must be placed in a "Library" Scenery folder and all the *.bmp files must be placed in a "Library" Texture folder...

INSTALLATION:

Author's Note:

I had the opportunity to read Mike's Musings #10 at SurClaro. I agree with Mike McCarthy in that we do need to make the installation of scenery and aircraft as simple and as standard as possible. With that being said, I am attempting to do so, but I still do not trust the "direct to the folder" method. Not all of us have the same add-ons, for example, Lago's FSE. Also, not all of us have our FS9 in the default folder system, myself included. So, for now, I will continue to urge you to unzip the main scenery file to a temporary folder and I will attempt to direct you on where to put the different components.

I have received some suggestions from the users and I have no problem continuing that policy. Hopefully, we will be able to narrow everything down to a simple, standard installation procedure.

If you don't have them already, download Lee Swordy's Traffic Tools v2x and AFCAD2x. Follow the instructions from the files and install them onto your system. While you're at it, download the following texture sets and put them into the main FS texture folder. They are: ASDv2.1, Nova, Nova Gold and NovaSim textures, plus my own custom textures. All are available for free at my website, www.lfssd.net (the "l" is an L, not a one). You also should download Rwy12 and EZ Scenery objects/textures. You don't need the complete programs unless you are going to design scenery too. (See the Rwy12 open letter on SurClaro or SurClaro.com search file rwy12_-_open_letter.zip). As mentioned above, you can get the EZ Scenery libraries/textures from Abacus' website at http://www.abacuspub.com/pub/AbacusEZLibraries.exe.(See Scenery Libraries above for specific library files) available on Flightsim and SurClaro.com

AFTER UNZIPPING THE FILE n85_v1.ZIP TO A TEMPORARY FOLDER, HOPEFULLY, YOU ARE READING THIS README FILE. You should have the following: lsigns_2.zip. These are the updated ez scenery objects I created to include this scenery. Unzip this to the Addon Scenery folder in your FS9 (Don't forget to use the folders switch so the files will automatically go to the proper sub folders. Overwrite if asked)

Also you'll find 182R_RG_N85.zip. This is the banner pulling Cessna aircraft. Unzip to the FS9 folder. The aircraft should go to the aircraft folder automatically if you use the "use folders" switch.

Aircraft_N85.txt, Airports_N85.txt and FlightPlans_N85.txt - You can modify these files if you want to change the AI flights in the scenery. You must have Lee Swordy's Traffic Tools installed.

n85_fs1 to n85_fs6 - These are .jpg screenshots

FILE_ID.DIZ - File indentification text.

Readme.txt - The file you are reading right now.

n85scen.zip - The zip file containing the airport scenery.

Using the folders switch, unzip the file n85scen.zip to a temporary folder.

You should have the following:
fs2k4_scenery\n85\scenery
FS2004\LAGO\FSE\Data\xxx.se2
\Common\Tracks\xxx.osc

From the main zip file (n85_v1.zip)

Now:
1. move the n85 folder (and the subfolder) to wherever you keep your addon scenery.
2. For you Lago users, move the xxx.se2 and xxx.osc files to their proper folder under the LAGO main folder. The .se2 goes in the FSE\Data folder and the .osc goes in the Common\Tracks folder.

Activating the scenery in FS9:

1. Start FS
2. At the Menu, select Settings
3. Then select Scenery Library
4. Select Add Area
5. Go to where you have the scenery folder and just open the folder ie; (N85) Then click OK
6. Set the priority using the "D" Key or the Move Down button or the "U" Key or the Move Up Button
7. Click OK
8. Close FS and re-start
9. At the menu select "Select a Flight"
10. Scroll down to a flight, hightlight and click FLY NOW
11. Go to the World drop down menu at the top of the screen (If you are in the Windows setting) and click. If you are in the Full Screen setting, press the ALT key for the drop down menu bar. Then click on World.
Next click on Go To Airport. Select United States, New Jersey, Alexandria Airport and the parking space, (I recommend parking 3) then click OK.
12. Select your aircraft you want to fly.
13. Change the time of day (GMT) to the time mentioned above in the "About the Aircraft" section and save the flight.
Now go fly.

Happy landings!
