MEIGS FIELD (KCGX) CHICAGO

ABOUT THE AIRPORT:

Merrill C. Meigs Field Airport (IATA: CGX, ICAO: KCGX), was a single strip airport built on Northerly Island, the man-made island originally created to house the 1933-1934 Century of Progress in Chicago, Illinois. The airport opened on December 10, 1948, and became the country's busiest single-strip airport by 1955. The latest air traffic tower was built in 1952 and the terminal was dedicated in 1961. The airfield was named for Merrill C. Meigs, publisher of the Chicago Herald and Examiner and an aviation booster.

Closing of Meigs Field

Tower of the AirportIn 1995, Mayor Richard M. Daley's office recommended closing Meigs Field and turning Northerly Island into 75 acres (304,000 m2) of lakefront park. In 2001, a compromise was reached between Chicago, the State of Illinois, and others to keep the airport open for the next twenty-five years. However, the federal legislation component of the deal did not pass the United States Senate.

In a controversial move on March 30, 2003, Mayor Daley ordered private crews to destroy the runway in the middle of the night, bulldozing large X-shaped gouges into the runway surface. The required notice was not given to the Federal Aviation Administration or the owners of airplanes tied down at the field, and as a result sixteen planes were left stranded at an airport with no operating runway. They were later allowed to depart from Meigs' 3,000 foot (914 m) taxiway.

ABOUT THE SCENERY:

This is version 1 on my redition of Meigs Field. It is not very accurate, so I believe there will be future versions. I created the scenery using FSDSv3 and EZ Scenery. The textures for the FSDSv3 section are included with this download. You will have to download the EZ Scenery Libraries listed below.

Set your Scenery complexity to normal and use no Autogen, otherwise you will have little shrubs all over the tarmac, taxiway and runway. Have a good time with this one.

Happy landings!!!!!

Scenery Libraries:

Here is a list of the libraries I used for this scenery. However, I recommend you look at the list following this one and download the libraries you do not have.

EZ SCENERY OBJECTS FILE LIST....

This is a compiled list of scenery object files that can be used in FS2004 with sceneries that require EZ-Scenery Objects.. These files can be found at the AVSIM Files Library... Many are also availible at FlightSim..

The list by Ray Lunning and John Loney gives the name of the author and the File name.. I have downloaded each of these to my EZ Objects Library and can verify that they are current and availible...

There are many more EZ Objects Files availible.. We have just listed those which We have downloaded and which are the most commonly used..

You "DO NOT" need to have the ABACUS EZ-SCENERY or the RWY12 programs installed to use the objects...However, you will need most if not all of these files when you download Airport sceneries that use these objects... I have created an EZ Objects Library folder in my FS9\Addon Scenery folder..All the *.bgl, *.xml and *.txt files must be placed in a "Library" Scenery folder and all the *.bmp files must be placed in a "Library" Texture folder...

ABOUT THE AIRCRAFT:

The AI aircraft in this scenery are efault in nature, although there are some non default aircraft involved. If you have them installed FSX, they will show up otherwise, you will not see them. However there are enough default aircraft for the scenery. When you start the scenery, set the time at 14:01:00 local time.
