FS2004 Scenery of Gatow (EDUG), Berlin, Germany 1949-1994

Originally built as a Luftwaffe training station in 1935, Gatow became a
Royal Air Force airfield in 1945 and played a major role in the Berlin
airlift of 1948-9 and the ensuing Cold War. The scenery updates my
earlier FS2002 versions and contains the surviving nine Luftwaffe hangars (some
of them open to view), the two post-war runways, the airlift
aprons, and some of the later Cold War surveillance installations. The
scenery places some additional landmarks not present in the simulator's
default scenery and uses scaled terrain features, satellite textures, and
landclass tiles for realism. A video presenting the mood of the location can be
accessed at www.SurClaro (search the "Cineplex" page for "Jahn" or the
library files for comeaway.zip). Closed since 1995, part of the former airfield
is now occupied by a suburban settlement while another part has become the site
of the Luftwaffe Museum (www.luftwaffenmuseum.de).

Installation:

1. If you have a previous Gatow scenery, back it up and remove or
deactivate it.

2. Copy the two main folders contained in the zip, i.e., Gatow and
Gatow_Landclass, to the "Flight Simulator 9\Addon Scenery" folder.

After completion of step 2, the relevant section of the "Addon Scenery" folder
should look as follows:

Addon Scenery
---Gatow
------Scenery
------Texture
---Gatow_Landclass
------Scenery

Note well, there should be NO "texture" folder within "Gatow_Landclass".

3. From the simulator's startup menu, select Settings > Scenery Library
> Add area and successively pick out the folders "Gatow_Landclass" and "Gatow"
(in that order). Activate both and if necessary use the move up/down button to
ensure that Gatow has a higher precedence than (i.e. comes before)
Gatow_Landclass.

4. To uninstall, deactivate the scenery via Settings > scenery library >
delete area.

Customization options

1. If you want ATC to be able to pronounce the word "Gatow" rather than the
generic "ground", use the file "edugvoice.vcpmod" included in this zip to
modify the simulator's voice database. You'll have to download and install
the program EditVoicePack from www.editvoicepack.com and follow the
instructions for importing a sound file.

2. For the purposes of AI traffic, the airport parameters are:
EDUG,N52* 28.48',E13* 08.29',194

3. As far as I can tell, the scenery is compatible with aerosoft's VFR Berlin
scenery, available here:
www.aerosoft.de/shop-rd_s/vfr_berlin_2006.html

To avoid duplication of scenery objects already present in VFR Berlin, delete
the following files from Gatow\scenery: funkr4.bgl (Funkturm) and 0gw-
teu3.bgl (Teufelsberg).

4. This version of Gatow is also compatible with aerosoft's Real Germany region
2 satellite scenery (even though some seams may be visible). See
