ABOUT THE AIRPORT:

Westchester County Airport (KHPN) was originally constructed in 1942 on 700 acres in lower Westchester County, the airport was intended as an Army Air Force base to be used in the protection of New York City during World War II. In 1947 the airport and surrounding property were handed over to the County of Westchester for commercial and civil aviation use, and re-named Westchester County Airport (HPN). Although there has been some argument about this, the 3 letter code is from Harrison-Purchase-North Castle...(3 towns bordering the airport).

ABOUT THE SCENERY:

I have relatives all over the place and Westchester County is of course on the way to visiting some of them. However, whenever I pass there, I never have my camera with me. So all of the research comes from the internet. I was able to find information on where the FBO's are situated on the field. The main terminal building is from a picture I found at the airport's web site. There are lots of parking spaces and you have an opportunity to fill in some flights because I did not create flight plans for all. That was by design. I thought it would be fun for you to do some of your own flights. However, there are a considerable number of flights with the scenery, both commercial and general aviation. I have included the source flight plans file in case you want to work from that. For those of you who have Lago's FSE, there is a file included that enhances the scenery further. I've also included some custom textures for the FBO signs and the airport sign on the main terminal. The rest of the textures are the normal ones I usually incorporate into the sceneries I design. If you don't have them, you can download them from SurClaro and fsnova.com. They are ASDv2.1, Nova and Nova Gold textures from SurClaro and Novasim testures (nstext.zip) from fsnova.com. Two known problems still under investigation are Crashing into an invisible object during taxiing and crashing into a building while parked at a gate or on a ramp, even though you are not physically in contact with anything, when you first go to the airport via the "Go to Airport" menu. The solutions are, for the first one, turn off the crash detect in FS and for the second one, Go to the airport while in the tower view only. Have fun and enjoy.

*=This aircraft, though not fully compatible with FS9 will work in FS9 as an AI aircraft. You just will not see the props. So if you chose to use this aircraft and the warning comes up, do not disable anything. Let it run. I have had no problems with it so far.

INSTALLATION:

AFTER UNZIPPING THE FILE KHPN_V1.ZIP TO A TEMPORARY FOLDER, HOPEFULLY, YOU ARE READING THIS README FILE.

If you don't have them already, download Lee Swordy's Traffic Tools v2x and AFCAD2x. Follow the instructions from the files and install them onto your system. While you're at it, download the texture files necessary for this scenery and put them into the main FS texture folder. They are: ASDv2.1, Nova, Nova Gold and NovaSim textures. All are available for free at SurClaro except NovaSim. You can get NovaSim textures for free at www.fsnova.com.

Using the folders switch, unzip the file khpn_scen.zip to the drive where you have your FS. Using your file manager (Windows Explorer) check to make sure that all the files are in their proper folder.

C:\My Documents\Flight Simulator Files should have NY - Westchester County FLT and WX files
Drive:\FS2004\Addon Scenery\scenery should have AF2_KHPN.bgl
Drive:\FS2004\Scenery\World\scenery should have TrafficWestchester.bgl
Drive:\fs2k4_scenery\KHPN\scenery should have the *.bgl scenery files
Drive:\FS2004\Texture should have the following textures:
Avitat Jet Systems, Panorama Flight Service, Signature Flight Support, Skyport, Westair Aviation and Westchester_Airport_Sign
If you have Lago's FSE 2004, then check the following:
Drive:\FS2004\Lago\FSE\Data\should have WestchesterCounty.SE2

Start FS and select settings to add the scenery in the usual manner.

You should be ready to fly. Happy landings!
