ABOUT THE AIRPORT:

Aspen-Pitkin Co/sardy Field Airport serves Aspen and Pitkin County and is owned by Pitkin County. The paved runway extends for 7004 feet. The facility is at an elevation of 7815 feet at a distance of about 3 miles from Aspen.

Walter Paepcke and John Spachner founded the Aspen-Pitkin County Airport as a privately owned, public use gravel landing strip in 1946. The primary user of the airport at the time was the Aspen Institute, the forerunner to Aspen Airways. The original facility consisted of a log cabin terminal building and a gravel runway. In 1956, Aspen Airport Corporation officially deeded the Airport to Pitkin County making it a publicly owned public use airport, one of the requirements for federal participation in airport development.

ABOUT THE SCENERY:

Ok, I just did Telluride (KTEX), and as long as I was in ski country, I thought why not do the most famous one. So, here's Aspen. There were some decent photos of the ABO(Aspen Base Operations) and the terminal on the internet. The ABO turned out ok, but though I got the right shape of the terminal, I gave it a generic texturing for lack of better textures in my arsenal. I left the default tower intact. I thought MS did a pretty decent job on that.
Ok, so spring is almost here, but for those die-hard fly-in skiers, HAPPY FLYING and watch out for those trees on the slopes!
