GAU Cleaner 2.4
for Flight Simulator 2000
copyright 2000-2001 by Nicola Marangon
--------------------------------------

First of all, sorry for my macaronic english. :-)

GAU Cleaner is SHAREWARE.
The previous version was CARDWARE, unfortunately I decided to change
the policy for two reasons:
- Considering the scant number of registrations clashing with the
large number of users
- I'm still using FS98, GauCleaner was born in consequence of the big
number of requests by users using FS2000

Obviously all registered users will be entitled to request a free key.

Credits
-------
I'd like to say "thank you" to Paolo Ferrara, Alex Temchenko and
Francesco Gola.

Then I have to thank heartily JACK ZERKEL and VANGELIS HASSIOTIS for
their big efforts.

Thank you guys

------------
If you like the program and decide to use it, you must register it.
Registering GauCleaner will entitle you for free on-line support and a
registration code that will remove the limits on on the number of times you
can use the program.
To register use the link on my site.
Registration costs you 12 US dollars and can be made via credit card.

E-mail is the only method you will be contacted for support and product updates.

Description
-----------
Anytime you install a panel, a lot of .GAU files are copied into the GAUGES
directory of your Flight Simulator.
Then when you delete a panel, a consistent number of gauges still remains in
your hard disk.
GAU Cleaner will help you to remove these unused gauges.

Installation
------------
Simply create a directory and copy GAU Cleaner into it.

The executable is very small, so I refuse to distribute a MS setup program
(about 1.5M) with it. I tried GAU Cleaner on many PCs with FS98 and now
I can say that it should works in most cases without such distribution set.
GAU Cleaner requires the Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 Runtimes. These are
standard Microsoft support files, which are necessary to run any application
written in the Visual Basic 6 programming language. You can download these
Runtime files from my site.

Using GAU Cleaner
-----------------
GAU Cleaner tries to identify your FS2000 directory using the registry. If this
does not work, you must tell the program in wich directory is your FS2000
installed.
Now you can push that "SCAN" button... GAU Cleaner will check your panels and
the GAUGES directory.
After gathering this information, it will fill a list with gauge names.
Those marked are orphan gauges and can be removed (The program also tells you
how much disk space you will free).
Pressing the "CLEAN" button the unused gauges will be deleted.
You can make a backup of your gauges using the backup checkbox. When you
enable it, GAU Cleaner prompts you a dialog box; choose the destination
directory for your backup and confirm it.
GAU Cleaner will not verify if there is enough available space, so check it
yourself. :-)
The SYSGAU file contains the default gauges in order to exclude them
from a cleaning operation.. so you can modify it and exclude the gauges you
want.
From 2.2, GauCleaner, by default, will search every *.cfg file inside
"panels" directories.
A new find function has been introduced to search for missing gauges.
Practically, will look for every reference inside the panel.cfg and then
will list them those missing in the GAUGES dir

IMPORTANT: IF YOU DON'T TRUST IN GAU CLEANER (AND WHY SHOULD YOU DO?), MAKE
A BACKUP YOURSELF... and read the disclaimers below.
