Consolidated PBY-6A Catalina for FS2004

March 2004

This plane was built by the Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corporation, New Orleans, U.S.A. in 1945. It entered service in the Royal Danish Air Force in April 1957. In the following years it performed numerous transport and SAR operations in Greenland and Danmark, until the Catalinas were taken out of active service in November 1970.

Out of the 16 Catalinas (both PBY-5A's and PBY-6A's) operated by the RDAF between 1947 and 1970, only three planes exist today. The former L-857 is currently being restored for exhibition in Norway, and the L-861 is now one of the main attractions in the aircraft collection of the National Museum of Science and Technology in Elsinore, Denmark. The L-866 was sold to the RAF Museum at Cosford in 1972, and was flown to the UK in May 1974. It still carries the RDAF colours today.

My repaint represents the way the plane looked in the mid 1960's, which is a grey paint scheme with orange "day glow" markings on the wingtips etc. You may notice that there is something missing on the model compared to the real thing. But Mike Stone's simply doesn't have the characteristic RDAF radar dome on top of the cockpit.

The L-866 repaint is released as freeware and may not be changed in any way without my permission. Thanks to Mike Stone for making his fine model and supplying us with the base textures for repainting.

INSTALLATION
=============================================================

Please follow Mike Stone's instructions in his READTHIS.txt file. If you wish, you can copy the included smoke effect file to the effects folder of FS2004.

If you already have my repaint of the L-861 (rdafl861.zip), you can just copy the texture.L-866 folder into your installation of that plane and add the following lines to the aircraft.cfg:

[fltsim.1]
title=Consolidated PBY L-866
sim=pby

texture=L-866
kb_checklists=
kb_reference=
atc_id=L-866
ui_manufacturer=Consolidated
ui_type=PBY-6A
ui_variation=RDAF L-866

That should be just about it. Start your FS2004 and find L-866 in the Consolidated PBY section.

Have a nice flight!
