This plane was built by the Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corporation, New Orleans, U.S.A. in 1945. It entered service in the Royal Danish Air Force on April 24th 1957, and was stationed in Greenland for the first time on May 6th 1959. In the following years it performed numerous transport and SAR operations in Greenland and Danmark, until the Catalinas were taken out of active service in November 1970.

Out of the 16 Catalinas (both PBY-5A's and PBY-6A's) operated by the RDAF between 1947 and 1970, only three planes exist today. The former L-857 is currently being restored for exhibition in Norway, and the L-866 was donated to a RAF museum in Cosford in 1974. It still carries the RDAF colours there.

The L-861 stood for a number of years at Værløse Air Base just falling apart, but after an enormous effort and 18 years of restoration under the leadership of Jørgen Wistrøm it is now one of the main attractions in the aircraft collection of the National Museum of Science and Technology in Elsinore. You can read about the L-861 and the rest of the collection at www.tekniskmuseum.dk

My repaint represents the present day look of the plane, which is an eaarly grey paint scheme without the orange "day glow" markings on the wingtips etc, and you may notice that there is something missing on the model compared to the real thing. But Mike Stone's simply doesn't have the characteristic RDAF radar dome on top of the cockpit.

The L-861 repaint is released as freeware and may not be changed in any way without my permission. Thanks to Mike Stone for making his fine model and supplying us with the base textures for repainting.

INSTALLATION
=============================================================

Please follow Mike Stone's instructions in his READTHIS.txt file. If you wish, you can copy the included smoke effect file to the effects folder of FS2004.

That should be just about it. Start your FS2004 and find L-861 in the Consolidated PBY section.

Have a nice flight!
