PAM SPRINGS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
California, USA
ICAO idenitfier: KPSP
Version 1.0 for FS2004 only.

TURN ON WORD WRAP

This is a brand new scenery project depicting Palm Springs International Airport in Southern California. This project started off as a simple redo of the default buildings but expanded into a complete make-over of the entire airport in GMAX.

The scenery also includes a built-in AFCAD which should work with AI traffic.

AIRPORT BACKGROUND
Palm Springs Airport is the main airport for the city of Palm Springs and caters to an area with a catchment popultation of over one million in the valleys East of Los Angeles. The airport describes itself as America's Resortport because the city of Palm Springs is one of best resort cities in America. Climate wise this area receives some of the lowest rainfall in the country, and temperatures well within comfortable range, although summers are hotter.

The airport could be best described as a second level feeder airport with a large general aviation presence. Bizjets also abound as visitors come to enjoy the beautiful surrounds, with many famous personalities maintaining residences here. The airport itself played host to 93,000 aircraft movements in 2001 and attracted over 1.2m passengers. Two parallel runways are in use and the airport itself has a very simple layout. The terminal building was inaugurated only a few years back and is a unique design resembling a round rotunda. The original terminal building is still in existence and serves as the entry point to the current airside terminal. The Palm Springs Air Museum is also depicted to the East side of the airport with a Tiger Moth and an F-16 resident.

Most of the major airlines have a service to PSP although some serve the airport through their commuter arm.

The current airspace procedures at PSP are largely determined by the high terrain all round. No ILS is present and mostly VOR/GPS approaches are in use with the 31s the usual active runways. Departure procedures call for a sharp right or left turn to avoid terrain.

I hope you like the scenery!

INSTALLATION:
As normal, unzip the file PSP2004.zip. The unzipped file should create the following directories,

\PSP (with two subdirectories \scenery and \texture)
\PSP Base Texture

Move the PSP folder intact to the FS2004\Addon scenery\ so that it creates a PSP folder there (warning: leave the folders intact when pasting, do not copy contents of the folders themselves).

Open the PSP Base Texture folder and Move the file taxi_macadam.bmp contained in the folder to your base FS2004\texture folder (see note below before doing this step!)

NOTE: There is an alternate texture (taxi_macadam.bmp) included which makes the base ground under the airport look like it does in real life. However, this requires changing the default taxi_macadam texture which resides in the FS2004\texture folder. If you want to use this texture it is included in the \PSP Base Texture folder in this download and you can move this to the FS2004\texture folder overwriting the original. Caution: However, as this changes the default texture it can affect other airports/areas where this texture is used. Therefore, I would recommend to rename or backup the original taxi_macadam.bmp file before copying this replacement texture.

Start FS2004 and thru the scenery library add the above scenery folder as PSP2004.
Ensure that the PSP2004 folder is on a scenery level higher (i.e. lower scenery layer number) than the default Los Angeles Aerial Photo and Western North America, and any terrain mesh add-on scenery folders.
Remember to use this scenery the default Western North America scenery has to be active at the same time as this scenery.
I have NOT tested this scenery with the Socal Megascenery as I do not possess this product.

Although I have included all required textures, just to be careful you may want to download the Airport 2.60 textures and place them in your FS2004\texture directory.

Four different programs were used to design this scenery (that is just the way I am... :)), and because SceneGenX was used, the AFCAD file is automatically an integral part of the scenery. However, if you don't like it and want to amend it, feel free to experiment.

Also ensure that within the Scenery Library the vehicles library are active.

There are no Exclude and Flatten switches to be installed in the scenery.cfg file.

There are also a bunch of low-poly GA aircraft included to give the GA ramps that "busy" look. Copyright: Microsoft.

As usual the scenery is set-up on different scenery density settings gradually increasing in complexity as you increase the slider to 'very dense', at which point all the scenery is displayed.

TREES
My first recommendation would be for you to install Gerrish Gray's excellent tree macros (trees_V3.zip). This package is required for this scenery or you will get errors. They are available at AVSIM and SurClaro. Once you have downloaded this package, unzip and,

- CUT and PASTE the file trees_0.bgl to the folder FS2004\Scenery\BASE\Scenery
- CUT and PASTE all the *.bmp files to the main FS2004\texture folder.
