FS2004 North American P-51D Mustang "Moose/Candyman"

Who don't knows the Mustang?
It was the best land-based fighter of the war, and after the war, every country and many particulars had at least one. Even today, you can find Mustangs in flying condition in many airports of the world.

The first aircraft in what was to become The Fighter Collection was this North American Mustang and was acquired in April 1980. This aircraft was delivered to the US Army Air Force in England in 1945. In 1947 it was transferred to the Royal Canadian Air Force at Suffield, Alberta, where it flew until 1957. The plane passed through two civil owners in California and was flown over the Atlantic to England later. Up to this time it had a bright red color scheme with white trim and the name CANDYMAN on the nose and fuselage. In the mid-1970s the P-51 was repainted in an authentic war colour scheme as flown by the 362nd Fighter Squadron, to which the plane originally was supplied. It continues to carry the name CANDYMAN on the starboard nose cowl. On the port side the name of the original is worn, this being "MOOSE", after Lt. "Moose" Becroft who flew her during 1944. In 1985 the plane went on to star in the films "Empire of the Sun" and "Memphis Belle".
In 1989, after filming in ‘Memphis Belle’, the aircraft was given a complete overhaul by The Fighter Collection at Duxford. The airframe was remarkably free of corrosion and damage, but a full strip down and component overhaul was undertaken. An overhauled original flying panel was installed. The rear fuel tank in the fuselage has been removed and a wartime style modification made to fit a ‘dickey’ seat. This ‘mod’ in 1944 allowed Eisenhower to survey the D-day beaches from the back of a Mustang. A special 1720hp Merlin engine now powers the aircraft. The plane was sold to "The Old Flying Machine Company" in 1999 and renamed "Ferocious Frankie".

I was expecting to find many repaints of Candyman for FS2004, or at least, for FS2002. I couldn't. I only found a FS5 one from 1997. So, enjoy and try to fly in formation with the "Menphis Belle"!

I have made another Mustang repaints, one of them a black and red plane with the serial number N5420V. I received an email from T J Johansen, from Oslo, Noruega. He asked me why I said that N5420V was actually in flying state, and I answered that I was using the information I obtained in internet. He wrote me this:

Unfortunately the photo of N5420V at the airshow in 2002 is
mislabeled. It is actually the CAF's 44-73264 N5428V
"Gunfighter II". This serial is also somewhat wrong as the
fuselage of that plane is in reality 44-73273. N5420V is no
more than paperwork with the Coutches family today. They sold
several 51s to Cavalier in the 1960's which were reduced to
spares by them. Coutches kept the identity which can be
assigned to another plane later on. The canopy of N5420V is
laying in the attic of a friends hangar in California!

Well, I'm sad to know that there is another P-51 less in the world. And the lesson from this is that you can't trust in some information until you checked it from two or three independend sources.

Warranty:
I love the warranty wrote by Andrew W. Hall:
"None. Zip. Nada. Use at your own risk. I don’t think
this will harm your computer in any way, but if it does, I
don’t even want to hear about it."

A last remark: Why don't become a repainter? There are a lot of planes with special markings. I'm tired of the usual F-16 low-vis scheme, or the usual 757 in Delta markings. Why don't a "Bat's outa Hell's" B-25 or a serie of Qantas 737s? The plane modelers like Andrew C Wai are very important, but they can't make all the painting schemes by himselfs. So why don't help him and his friends?

INSTALLATION:
Just unzip p51dah51.zip in your "Aircraft" folder of FS2002, FS2004 or FS9 (make sure "use folder names" is checked) and copy the gauges folder content in the correspondent one.
