Cancun 2008 - by Chris Donawho

This scenery enhancement updates the excellent scenery "Cancun 2005" by Henry Carcamo (cancun_2005.zip available at AVSIM)... Henry's scenery, along with the usual RWY12 and EZ libraries are required in order to use this scenery.

I haven't seen any Cancun sceneries, freeware or payware, that include the new Terminal 3. For this reason, I have decided to create this terminal using the usual RWY12, EZ, and default object libraries. For this reason, the terminal building itself will not be an exact match, but rather the closest rendition that FS9 objects have to offer.

Terminal 3 is a three-story, $100million facility that definitely sets itself apart from the "typical" Mexican airport terminal. If you've been through this terminal, you know what I mean. In the old terminals, there's a sense of "Damn... Looks and smells like Mexico," as soon as you deplane. You have that musty smell, along with a total circus that is the customs area. Not anymore. Terminal 3 has streamlined entry to and exit from Mexico, transforming customs entry into an efficient, uneventful experience. The jetways are different from any other airport I've been to. Arriving and Departing passengers obviously use the same jetway, but about midway down the tunnel, it splits into two; the right side for arriving passengers leads to the 2nd level, where you are then lead to the customs area. The other side is for departing passengers on the 3rd level. This setup makes for some pretty long jetways as you will see in this scenery. It looks a little strange in the scenery, but it needed to represent the actual terminal. Simply slapping a few normal jetways on a building just doesn't cut the mustard here.

This is my first upload project. It will look like your average first project I would presume. I definitely need a custom building for this terminal, but I do not have the right software for that yet. Probably around summertime, I plan on re-releasing a version2 that will replace the default-looking building I have used here. You can see the real terminal at:

In the meantime, this will have to do.

INSTALLATION - You must have Henry Carcamo's Cancun 2005 installed to use this scenery. If you dont have it, get it.. Henry did a great job on the old terminals. Obviously he has some talent making custom 3D objects.

Also required are your typical EZ and RWY12 object libraries. Most scenery uses these libraries so you probably already have them.

Move the CANCUN_2008 folder to your FS9\Addon Scenery folder, or whereever you usually install your addons... Start FS9, activate it, and restart.

This scenery has some exclude files that were used to clear my new apron of any trees that cropped up. So MAKE SURE you have this scenery listed higher up in priority than the 2005 scenery.

CREDITS - this scenery was made with AFX and Instant Scenery, both available from Flight1. There is a guy that goes by the name of FSDiscoverer in their support forum that has been instrumental in guiding me through the software. Also, David "Opa" Marshall has provided quite a bit of insight when I started with RWY12. He convinced me to purchase the above mentioned software and without that advice, there is no way I could have built these jetways or parking spots. So hats off to both of these gentlemen.

That's it... Hope you enjoy it. If not, the delete button is usually somewhere on the right side of your keyboard. There's no shame in using it.

Regards,
Chris Donawho

IMPORTANT NOTES - This file was released on avsim a few days ago. I have found that out of 600+ downloads, I've only gotten three emails.. Two of these emails were from people who could not see the Terminal - they were missing a library file, which I promptly sent to them. One other email was from someone using the scenery in FSX. This scenery is not for FSX, but I can make it work if you have any trouble. Henry's original scenery used some trees that were not jiving with FSX. I have begun creating exclude files to get rid of those trees. As far as I know, my trees work fine. If you need any of these files, just let me know. Ive been keeping a "support" folder with all changes that anyone requires so I can easily distribute them to those in need. With very few problems, the fixes have been really simple.

Obviously, with only three support emails out of 600 downloads, I have to believe that this scenery is working just fine for an overwhelming majority.
