The McDonnell Douglas MD 600N has been presented on the HeliExpo '95 in Las Vegas. The first flight was on 8th November, 1994. The 600N is the stretched version of the 520N, with a 30 inch fuselage plug, an (more powerful) Allison 250C-47M-engine and a main-rotor with six blades. The 600N has a shorter (4,6 inch) diameter main-rotor and a more maximum take-off weight of 220 pounds.

While the development of the MD 600N there was a big observance of secrecy so that the helicopter was surprisingly advanced at the presentation. Because of the enlargement of the fuselage McDonnell Douglas is able to offer a one turboshaft helicopter within the class 6-8 seats beside the MD 900 Explorer. Therefore the MD 600N is becoming a direct competitor of the Eurocopter AS 350 A-Star and the Bell 407, but the 600N is up to 50 percent quieter and produces lower operating cost than competitive aircraft. The company AirStar Helicopters, which realizes round flights over the Grand Canyon, ordered at the day of the presentation the first two helicopters. The MD 600N is nearly perfect for round flights over national parks because a) all passengers have an excellent view and b) there are hard noise limitations which other helicopters don't come up to.

Some helicopters were build under the name of Boeing Helicopters because McDonnell Douglas was bought from Boeing. After that the dutch RDM took the branch of the civil helicopters over and since then the helicopters are produced of MD Helicopters Inc..

Now to these models of the MD 600N:
This N4560 with the serial number RN-009 has been build by McDonnell Douglas in 1997. McDonnell Douglas presented this helicopter at 16th June, 1997 at the Paris Air Show Le Bourget with code H45. After that it flew under the registration OO-GOO for the Helifly bvba, Halen/Loksbergen in Belgium until it was sold on 17th August 1998 to the Aircraft Guaranty Corporation Trustee, Housten, Tx.. There it flew under the registration N4560. Later the N4560 has been bought by the "Hubschrauber Akademie Augsburg" in Germany, where it is used only for private.

The N660MC with the serial number RN-012 has been build by McDonnell Douglas in 1997, too. And the West Virginia State Police took it under the registration N176SP directly in service. On 16th January, 1998 during a crew training practice autoratation the aircraft touched down and the main rotor severed the tail boom. After that it was repaired at Mesa Arizona and rebuilt as N660MC. It was sold by Aero Marketing Group Ltd, Deerfield, Il. And since then there is no data where this helicopter is now. There's only the rumour that it's in service by Helinet LA.

The N511VA belongs to the few helicopters which were built by Boeing Helicopters. The serial number is RN-023 and was built in 1998. The County of Los Angeles Sheriffs Department, Monterey Park, CA took this helicopter with the registration N958SD under service. After that it did the job under the registration OO-SIV for a short time. And then on 24th April, 1998 the operator was Chr. John Siva-Jothy, London. The registration was G-SIVB. On 6th October, 1998 it flew for Righ Inc. Trustee, Wilmington, Detroit but the operator was still the same. The registration has changed to N511VA. On 18th April, 2001 the helicopter was at Eastern Atlantic Helicopters Inc, Mesa, Arizona only for a short time. And since 18th May, 2001 it flys for Marks Parks Inc. Trustee, Wilmington, Detroit.

This FS-model was built with Abacus FS Design Studio.
It was animated with Abacus Aircraft Animator.

A big thanks to:
Marcel Kaufmann, Steve Smafie and Tony Zeljeznjak for the excellent pictures,
Emanuel Dietz for the genius help - thanks Manni,
Brian Whitelegg for the effect of the main rotor,
Dave Eckert for his pilot and Jordan Moore for the helmet,
Manuel Gonzalez for the sound,
Thomas Rischko for translation german/english
and of course to the guys of JS-Design. If I had questions they helped me immediately.
Thanks to you all.
Without you my model would not be as it is.

Oh, I nearly forgot someone: Thanks to Ian Standfast for the model which you created for me for the FS98. It brought much fun to me to fly it.
If you read this it would be nice to hear from you what you think about my model.
And thank you for the flying characteristics and the cockpit.

So now to you all who downloaded this helicopter.
If you enjoy this model please write me what you think about it. And if anyone of you has pictures of a 600N please send them to me.
Excuse me that the GPS in the virtual cockpit of the N511VA doesn't work. I don't know why it doesn't work correctly. I tried many gauges. But no success. If somebody of you knows a gauge which works or knows why it doesn't work please write me.
Have much fun!
