KCVG GREATER CINCINNATI AIRPORT 1963 Scenery for FS2004 ONLY

HISTORY:
CVG began its life as Boone County Airport in the early part of the 20th century. It was home to
Boone County Airlines headquartered in a small wooden shack by the field. In 1942, President Roosevelt
authorized the construction of a bomber training facility for B 17s in the Cincinnati area and the
Boone County site was chosen. The location is actually in Northern Kentucky and gets its FAA
designator CVG from the nearest town, Covington, Kentucky. Cincinnati air traffic was centered in
those days around Lunken Field on the Ohio River just east of downtown. The field was often shrouded
in fog and frequently flooded during river swells (the 1937 flood was devastating to Lunken), so the
flat, high area west in Kentucky was chosen for the Army Air Corps site. Boone County, KY donated
the land and Kenton County, KY operates the facility, even today. After the war, Cincinnati officials
waged a serious battle to get a new airport built with federal funds in Blue Ash, Ohio on the northern
outskirts of Cincinnti. But due to the influence of Northern Kentucky Rep. Brent Spence, the congress
authorized money only to expand and develop the CVG site. The airport has remained in Kentucky ever
since, and today is officially the Northern Kentucky/ Greater Cincinnati International Airport.
This scenery represents the airport after renovation of the terminal in the late 1950's, but
before the building of a new terminal just to the east. The Barclay House Hotel complex is also
represented. The big players at CVG in this time frame were American, TWA, and Delta. Eastern,
Piedmont, and Lake Central also offered flights.
I highly recommend installing CalClassic's 1962 AI traffic package which will populate
the airport with classic propliners and jetliners including DC 6's, and Convair 880 and 990's.
The old Connies are there, too!

REQUIREMENTS:
This scenery requires The following free downloadable libraries for some things to show up:

1. EZ Scenery libraries (David Grindele's all-inclusive available for free download
at SurClaro ez_1.zip)
2. CalClassic Core library (www.calclassic.com)
PLEASE NOTE: as of this release date, a new CalClassic Objects libray is planned for release
in a month or so. It will substitute for this one and will be available at SurClaro
3. Runway 12 libraries (SurClaro rw12l112.zip, rw12l212.zip, rw12l312.zip)

INSTALLATION:
1. Download the kcvg1963_dlfFS9.zip file to a temporary folder and extract all the files.
2. Place or copy the entire folder "KCVG 1963" into your FS2004/Addon Scenery folder.
3. Turn on Flight Simulator 2004
4. At the main menu, click on and open the SETTINGS button.
5. Under "Scenery" click on and open the "Scenery Library"
6. Click on "Add Area", then navigate to "Addon Scenery". Double click to open, select the "KCVG 1963"
folder, and click the "OK" button.
7. At this point, the title of the folder should appear in the "Area List" menu of Flight Simulator
with a red check mark in the "Enabled" column.
8. Click the "OK" button and exit /close Flight Simulator. The next time you fly, the airport
should be in place.

SPECIAL NOTES:
1. Make sure any other AFCAD or AFX files for KCVG are removed or turned off lest strange things happen at the airport.
They are usually in the FS2004/ Addon Scenery/ scenery folder labelled AF2_KCVG,ADE_KCVG, AFX_KCVG or something similar.
2. Turn off any previous KCVG scenery folders in the FS2004 Scenery Library window (described above).
3. Although the AFCAD supplied is very realistic visually to the aerial views of the airport, FS2004 will
not allow deletion or modification of stock Nav aids such as ILS markers etc, at least at my level of sophistication
in scenery development! SO, the stock nav aids will still appear on the MAP view, and the glideslopes for the
ILS runways may be somewhat off.
BE CAREFUL out there flying.
4. You can turn off the airport by going to settings/scenery library and unchecking the enabled boxes.
5. ALWAYS make backup copies in separate folders of anything you remove or replace so you can restore your originals if you wish.
