[README]

This is the short version manual. A more thorough manual is supplied for this package which includes a background on the design and screen shots as well.

This is the F-136B Orbital Defense Interceptor code named 'Sling Shot'. This is a concept for a space capable futuristic fighter that uses Hyper Mach propulsion systems that are able to 'fling' the craft into space. This vehicles twin jet engines are hybrid in configuration where in they can transition from turbine jets to pure rockets via an 'iris' that closes off the fan section of the jets, creating a rocket combustion 'engine bell' section at the rear of each engine.

Use 6 clicks of F2 to lower thrust for taxi. If this vehicle seems overly powered for you, please use the additional config file that is in the folder marked 'Gentle Slower Airfile'. It is actually more easily manageable. With the lowered 'thrust' config file, you will only need 5 clicks of F2 to taxi.

This model features;
Retracting Fin Wings
Retracting Air Brake
Retracting Hyper Mach Nozzles
Opening Hatch
Opening Rear Ordinance Bombays
Appearing Wheel Chalks
Appearing Ladder and Pitot Tubes
Opening Fuel and Power Access Wells
Functioning Spoilerons
Backlit VC Instrumentation
Custom Panel
Kirk Olsons's Sound Pack
Speeds up to Mach 4.57 in Flight Simulator

The code name of 'Sling Shot' comes from the weapon of the Shepard boy David that fell the giant Goliath.

[CHECKLISTS]

TAKE-OFF
• TWO NOTCHES OF FINS (FLAPS)
• THROTTLE TO 1/3RD POWER OR SLIGHTLY MORE IF NEEDED
• ROTATE AT 129 KNOTS INDICATED
• RAISE GEAR UPON LIFT OFF
• RETRACT FINS AFTER GEAR IS FULLY LOCKED WITHIN HULL

CRUISE FLIGHT
• USE HIGH ALT. AIRWAYS FOR ULTRA HIGH SPEEDS OR VEHICLE WILL SHUDDER FROM AIR MASS OF LOW ALT.
• MONITOR ITT TEMPS, ONLY USE ONE NOTCH OF FINS EVER AT HIGH SPEED FLIGHTS AND ONLY FOR HIGH SPEED EMERGENCY MANUVERES.
• TRIM DOWN FOR ULTRA MACH SPEEDS

PATTERN ENTRY AND LANDING
• TWO NOTCHES OF FINS, (FLAPS)
• RETRACT GEAR AT 5 MILE CALL
• DECELLERATE TO 120 KNOTS ON FINAL WITH GEAR DOWN
• AT 10 FEET OVER THRESHOLD, THROTTLE OFF, MAXIMUM FINS/AIRBRAKES, (F8)
• REVERSE THRUSTERS IF NEEDED, (F2)
• UPON DECELLERATION, NORMAL THROTTLE, THEN 5 CLICKS OF F2 TO LOWER THRUST FOR NORMAL TAXI SPEEDS

[FLIGHT TIPS]

Taxi: Click F2 6 times to lower the thrust of the engines for normal taxi speeds.

Take-off: Rotation, or V2 is at 129 Knots KIAS under normal conditions with two notches of fins.

Cruise Flight: Fins fully retracted into the hull, moderate down trim over Mach 2.

Landings: Approach at 120 Knots Indicated with two notches of Fins. Upon touch down, full Fins with airbrakes and reverse thrusters if required after touchdown. Auto brake can be used.

Note; Fins settings are set to slow the vehicle down as well as produce added lift.

Also, the final two notches of flaps or ‘Fins’ will engage and lift the tail section Air Brake. To go to this mode of maximum deceleration (at slower air speeds), you would select F8 which deploys them fully. Upon landing and slowing to taxi speeds, select F5 to retract all flight surfaces and then 6 clicks of F2 for lowered thrust of the engine and thus manageable taxi speeds.

[OPTIONAL SECOND CONFIG FILE]

You 'MUST' use 6 clicks of F2 in order to taxi properly. The engines thrust ratings are massively raised to achieve such flight speeds. A second 'config' file is supplied in the folder 'Gentle_Slower_AirFile' in which you would simply trade out the config files and you would then have a more 'docile' bird. It is still suggested though that you use 5 clicks of F2 on the second config file for a nominal and manageable taxi speed. Note: You can only have one config file in the main aircraft folder. Rename or delete the present one and then drag and drop the secondary into the main F136 folder.

[SPECIAL THANKS]

Kirk Olson produced some of the light effects that are too incredible and well done. They are from his famous F-16 Viper package which took many awards. The sound pack is one of the best ever I have ever heard for a jet fighter, both in the interior as well as the exterior with engine roar.

Mr. Toshikazu Shimizu did the afterburner effects and contrail and gave permission to use them on this project. They are from the joint Japanese F-15 project Coral. A superb model and highly recommended. This is his update package that was later featured.

The gang at FreeFlightDesign.com were a massive help, especially Milton Shupe who helped me diagnose some problems I was having with the bird.

This software package is freeware. It is not to be sold in any way unless with explicit permission from William Ortis of Lionheart Creations Ltd.

Feel free to repaint this aircraft. I imagine there are quite a number of interesting things one could do with this aircraft by way of paint schemes.

This demonstrator package worked superbly on a P4 1800 Mghz computer with Windows XP. No side effects to the system were seen, nor caused to be effected. Thus, Lionheart Creations Ltd. cannot be held responsible for anything that might happen to your computer.
