DeHavilland DHC-3 Otter for FS2002

This is Steven Grant's Otter and Fred Choate's Otter panel which I have changed and re-released with their kind permission. I gave the Otter the South African Bulk River Game lodge paint, and made very minor changes to Fred's panel. These changes were necessitated by slightly resized gauges being used, which came with another aircraft, overwriting the original gauges. Fred's panel was perfect and needed nothing with the original gauges. My modifications were only to allow me to use one set of gauges amongst the aircraft of my DeHavilland Canada collection, which is getting pretty sizeable. It saved me some space, that's all. When I did that, I just needed to line a few things up a little, so if you compare this panel with Fred's brilliant original, you won't see much difference. I'd like to thank Steve and Fred for their kind permissions to re-release this flight sim classic in its new paint scheme. Enjoy!

Cheers!

The Aircraft

Success with the DCHC-2 Beaver persuaded de Havilland Canada in the late 1940's that there was room in the STOL market for a larger version of the Beaver. The company therefore developed the de Havilland DHC-3 Otter which was essentially a scaled-up Beaver with an all metal airframe and a 600hp Pratt & Whitney R.1340 Wasp radial, and was initially known as the King Beaver. The choice for a single engine for an aircraft designed to operate in Canada's harsh climate and sparsely populated hinterlands may seem lacking in forethought. However, successful operations of the Beaver and other single-engined types has confirmed that the well-proven radials of Pratt & Whitney design were more than adequate for the task: they were universally familiar and, more importantly, extremely reliable.
