After the launch of the Boeing 707, Boeing engineers decided that airlines who bought the 707 would also buy a short to medium-range aircraft. This aircraft was to be Boeing's first in their "family" concept of Jetliners. While the 720 was produced, it was a derivative of a longer aircraft and not a true short-haul machine.

The 727 had three engines as a compromise - United wanted 4, Eastern wanted 3, and American wanted 2. Eastern did not want Rolls Royce engines on the aircraft, so Boeing went with the JT8-D series, helping to make it the most popular engine on a jetliner. Boeing built 1832 727s, with a majority being the stretched 727-200 series, launched by Northeast.

United launched the 727 program with Eastern, but waited to order the 727-200 series. The first -222 series aircraft were delivered from mid-1968 through 1969, and the -222 Advanced series were delivered through 1979-80. Only the 74 -222A series aircraft remain, with the 86 -22 series, 38 -22C series, and 28 -222 series aircraft all retired. This is N7297U, depicted in the "Stealth" scheme circa 1998. It is still active with United, albeit hushkitted.

This 727 is an all-new visual model created using FSDS. It features full animation, a
24-sided fuselage, night lighting, and proper coloration. I designed it to replace
the older 727 models on my web pages.

PAINTERS NOTES:

This aircraft was a bear to get all of the textures lined up properly on. This release has
everything lined up properly, even though each file may appear to be several pixels off.
Hopefully VAS Gold will allow us to correct all of this.

Panel lines are included on these master BMP files. I personally do not paint panel lines
on painted surfaces (the 727 tail excluded), but I do paint them on bare metal surfaces.

This FSC file is set up for FS2000 and AA. It will not look right without animation. My
heavily customized MPI file is included for your painting convenience.
