DIAMOND KATANA CHECKLIST

PREFLIGHT INSPECTION

1. Flight controls. Check for proper direction of movement.
2. Ignition - Off
3. Parking brake - Off
4. Throttle - Free and Idle.
5. Propeller Speed Control Lever - Free, max RPM.
6. Battery Master - On.
7. Fuel Quantity - Sufficient for planned flight.
8. Ammeter - Check.
9. Trim - Neutral.
10. Flaps (indicator and actuation ) - Check, Extend & retract.
11. Trim and flap indicators, check visible.
12. Exterior lights - Operational as required.
13. Battery Master - Off.
14. External inspection ( simulate with spot view )


BEFORE STARTING ENGINE

1. Preflight inspection - as above, performed.
2. Pedals - Adjust ( adjust your rudder pedals if you use them )
3. Parking Brake - set.
4. Controls - free and proper movement.
5. Throttle - idle.
6. Propeller Speed Control lever - max RPM.
7. Avionics master switch - On.
8. Battery Master - On.
9. Exterior lights - As required.


STARTING ENGINE

1. Fuel pump - On
2. Throttle - Cold start - Idle
- Warm engine - slightly forward.
3. Brakes - set.
4. Prop area - Clear. And shout "Clear Prop"
5. Ignition Key - start.
6. Throttle - Max 1500 RPM.
7. Oil Pressure rising into green within 10 seconds.
8. Exterior Lights - As required.
9. Fuel pump - off.


BEFORE TAXIING

1. Avionics switch - check On.
2. Flight instruments and avionics - set
3. Engine gauges - check.
4. Voltmeter - Green. ( might lag on our panel )
5. Radio Call to ground.
6. Brake - Release.


TAXIING.

1. Brake - Check,
2. Direction Control - Check.
3. Flight instruments and Avionics - Check.
4. Compass - Check.
5. Taxi to run-up position if cleared.


ENGINE RUN-UP.

1. Toe Brakes - Hold.
2. Hatches and Harness secure.
3. Fuel - On and sufficient.
4. Engine Gauges - Green.
5. Trim - Neutral.
6. Controls - free.
7. Throttle - 1800-1900 RPM.
8. Propeller Speed Control - Cycle three times.
( rpm 50-250 drop )
9. Ignition Switch - Cycle L - BOTH - R - Both
( max drop 150 RPM )
10. Throttle - 1500 RPM.
11. Carb Heat ( H key ) - On ( RPM drop max 50 RPM )
12. Throttle - Idle.
13. Carb heat - Off.
14. Fuel pump - On.
15. Wing Flaps - To Take off position as required.
16. Radio Call.
17. Brakes release.


TAKE-OFF.

1. Fuel Pump - Check On
2. Battery Master Switch - Check On.
3. Ignition - Check BOTH.
4. Carb Heat - Off.
5. Flaps Check T/O.
6. Propeller Speed Control - Check Max RPM.
7. Throttle - Full
8. Check RPM 2400 RPM to 2550 RPM.
9. Elevator - Neutral at beginning of rolling.
10. Directional Control - Maintain with rudder.
11. Rotate - 51 Kts
12. Climb speed - 60 Kts
13. Propeller Speed Control - 2400 RPM at safe height.
14. Fuel pump - Off.


CLIMB.

1. Propeller Speed Control - 2400 RPM.
2. Throttle - Full.
3. Engine Gauges - Green.
4. Flaps - T/O of UP.
5. Airspeed - 65 Kts.
6. Trim - Adjust.


CRUISE.

1. Throttle - As required.
2. Propeller Speed Control - 1900RPM to 2400 RPM.
3. Flaps - UP.
4. Trim - As required.
5. Engine Gauges - Check.


DESCENT.

1. Flight Instruments and Avionics - Adjust as required.
2. Throttle - As Required.
3. Propeller Speed Control - 1900RPM to 2400 RPM.
4. Carb Heat - As required.


LANDING APPROACH.

1. Seat Belts - Fastened.
2. Fuel pump - On.
3. Lights - As required.
4. Battery Master - Check ON.
5. Ignition Switch - Check BOTH.
6. Carb heat - On.
7. Throttle - As required.
8. Airspeed - Max 81 Kts.
9. Flaps - Set mid position ( T/O )
10. Trim - As required.
11. Propeller Speed Control - Max RPM.
12. Flaps - Landing, FULL.
13. Approach speed - 57 Kts ( higher if strong headwind,
Crosswind or shear )

AFTER LANDING.

1. Throttle -As required.
2. Flaps - UP.
3. Carb Heat - Off.
4. Exterior Lights - As required.
5. Fuel Pump - Off.


ENGINE SHUT DOWN.

1. Throttle - IDLE.
2. Parking Brake - Set.
3. ELT - Check by listening to 121.5 MHZ for signal.
4. Avionics master switch - Off.
5. Electrics - Off.
6. Ignition - Off.
7. Master Switch - Off.
