TWA Airline History Museum Super G Constellation for FS2000
by Dave McQueen
January 20, 2001

This is a new Lockheed Super Constellation simulation updated from a FS98/FS2000 released Jan 4, 2000, one year ago. The file includes a
number of improvements over the older simulation.

The constellation has been completely rebuilt from my earlier versions with new rudders, landing gear, steerable nose wheels, textured propellers, transparent cockpit, highly detailed texture files with night lit texturing and a revised air file.
There are a few people without whose help this effort would have come up short. It truly is a result of international cooperation. First thanks to Rui Cristina of Portugal for his fine bare metal textures
and also for his suggestions in how to make these models more accurate and appealing. Thanks to Rob Bennis of the Netherlands for rebuilding and showing me how to make a transparent cockpit display properly and for his wing light additions.
In addition I have obtained permission from Lou Betti to make his super connie cockpit available with some modifications I have made to it--I have added the FS2000 GPS system to the panel for ease of navigating and I added side and rear photo real views taken inside the AHM Save-a-Connie aircraft by AHM's Greg Vaughn-- thanks Greg!!
Also I will make constellation engine sounds available on here too. courtesy of Hans Peter Christeler, Zurich, Switzerland.

You can download the panel and sounds from this web site:

This aircraft simulation is the latest upgrade to the constellation series that Dave McQueen has been making since 1996. It is intended for use with Microsoft's Flight Simulator 2000. It has full moving parts This aircraft simulation took many hundreds of hours of time at the keyboard to coordinate the present state of the project. This sim was made with Abacus' AF99 Aircraft Factory program and Konstantin Kukushkins' Aircraft Animator program. Activating the "O" key will turn on the strobe lights on the wing and fuselage.

#######################################################################TO INSTALL: Use a decompression program like Winzip to unzip the downloaded file to a temporary directory; then use Windows 95 Explorer to copy the AHML1049 folder to inside the aircraft folder of Flight Sim 2000. No conversion of the aircraft is needed!!!!

History
---------
The 'Constellation' and 'Super Constellation' were among the last of the great prop-driven airliners just before the jet age began in civil aviation. In 1939 Lockheed began with the development of the L-49 as a large four-engined civil aircraft. When the USA entered WWII, the concept was changed to the military transporter C-69, which first flew in January 1943. After the war the design was converted back to its original role, and the first L049 Constellations were put into service with Pan American Airways in 1946. The characteristic long slender fuselage and the triple tailfin of the Constellation could soon be seen at all major airports of the world. The long range and the pressurized cabin made the Constellation superior to most of her rivals. In 1951 the improved version, the L-1049 Super Constellation, saw service with Eastern Airlines. The L-1049, which had a longer fuselage and more power, went through many different versions, the last of which were the L-1049G and the passenger/freight version L-1049H. More than 600 Super Constellations were built.
