FOR FS2002 AND 2000

FROM ORIGINAL RECORDINGS FROM www.starfighters.nl by DANIELLE AND BART - dsiemes@hetnet.nl

GENERAL:

The 104 was noted as the first operational fighter to exceed mach unity in a climb. The aircraft is not very nimble however, especially with those tiny wings. The 104 was intended to fly as an interceptor. She was not a dogfighter, but she served faitfully as a ground attack aircraft and I believe the C was the multirole varant.

She was misnamed the widowmaker due to the accidents that occured while young pilots tried to master flying her. She was not a plane for inexperienced pilots. If you flew correctly she would treat you well and fly fast as anything else, but if you lost control even for an instant she had the aerodymanics of bathtub. The truth is that she was actually safer than many of her contemporaries. Which is why I consider naming her the widowmaker an exaggeration. Thew Starfighter was also known as the flying coffin, the missile with a man in it, Bullet & Blades, the Zipper, Spaghetti Starfighter (in Italian service), and Eiko ('Glory' - Japanese service).

The F-104 even served in Vietnam. She did not have an impressive kill record. This does not say anything about her capabilities, this was due to the fact that when the F-104 was on the prowl, the North Vietnamese did not fly. I don't blame them.

The most prominant features of the F-104 is its shape. Long and slender, the -104 features stubby wings with anhedral that were so sharp, ground crew needed to cover them so that they did not injure themselves! The aircraft is powered by a Single GE J79 engine producing rouhly 15,000 lb thrust.

INSTALLATION:

Extract to your favourite F-104's sound sub-directory. Alternatively extract to a dedicated folder and alias your F-104's to it.

You may want to delete the [sound] section of FS2002.cfg and replace with:

[SOUND]
SOUND=1
SOUND_FADER1=1.000000
SOUND_FADER2=0.470000
SOUND_FADER3=0.620000
SOUND_FADER4=0.800000
SOUND_FADER5=0.810000
SOUND_FADER6=1.000000
SOUND_QUALITY=2
Channels=2 (4 for surround sound?)
SamplesPerSec=44100
BitsPerSample=16

As most F-104's out there at the moment use FS98 FDE's this aircraft is optimized for use with them. If you have an FS2000/2002 FDE it won't make much difference. Only difference is FS98 FDE's idle higher so I adjusted the rate parameters to reflect this.
