and the cities of Walla Walla and College Place)

Introduction
~~~~~~~~~~~~
As I work my way back into flightsimming after a not so brief hiatus,
I figured I would try out the new Airport 2.60 on a simple airport like
Walla Walla Regional. However, once I got to the default airport in FS98,
I was so disappointed I decided to do things right. Walla Walla is the
agricultural center for southeastern Washington (the Tri-Cities being in
southcentral Washington). Most people know the name as a cartoon joke (no,
there's not REALLY an Acme Factory in Walla Walla), but Walla Walla is
home to three colleges (two of which are in this scenery), a shopping mall,
and the Washington State Penitentiary. I have tried to make this scenery
more appealing to the VFR flyers out there by adding some parts of the cities
of Walla Walla and College Place, as well as some of the local visual
landmarks, and Martin Airport to the southwest of Walla Walla.
What you will need
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

As with most sceneries these days, you'll need the Airport 2.xx and VOD 3.0
textures. These days most people run faster machines with 3D video cards,
so framerates and hangups shouldn't be a problem. However, if you run a
machine that is slower than 166 mHz, you may have some framerate issues.

Installation
~~~~~~~~~~~~
This scenery is very simple to install and use. The BEST method for
installing this scenery is:
1) Create a directory in FS98 such as c:\fs98\walla (or similar).
2) Create two folders within the "walla" folder called SCENERY
and TEXTURE (caps are not required).
3) Copy the .BGL files into the c:\fs98\walla\SCENERY directory,
and all the other files into the c:\fs98\walla\TEXTURE directory.
4) Run FS98, go into the "World" menu and click on "Scenery Library".
You'll then want to click on "Add File."
5) In the area for "Scenery Path," type in the path to the .BGL files
(e.g. c:\fs98\walla\scenery\*.bgl).
6) Make the scenery active, "Local," and any layer higher than 5.
7) Fly and enjoy!
As this scenery is compatible with any of my other Washington State
sceneries, you can also add it in with those sceneries.
What you'll see
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I have redone the airport, with the main asphalt runway 2/20, and the two
concrete/asphalt cross runways. The terminal building has been added at ALW
(in reality, it's just an aluminum-sided box) as well as some hangars and an
FBO or two. Since M$ did not even place the airport in a farmland area,
farmland textures have been underlaid. I added the cities of Walla Walla and
College Place, and as an added bonus, I threw in Martin Airport just west of
College Place. As part of the city (especially on approach to runway 2), you'll
see Borleske Stadium just west of the airport, and Walla Walla Community College,
with its Dietrich Dome arena, just to the east of the field. On approach to
runway 2, you'll also pass over Whitman College. I don't usually add this much
outside detail to my sceneries, but I couldn't pass up the chance to improve this
area.

A Couple things of note about Martin Airport, I did not put a starting point on it,
so if you want to stat there you'll need to slew southwest of ALW. Also, quite
importantly, the real Martin Airport is at 790'. However, due to the constraints of
FS98, the sim airport is at 1,217', or the same as Walla Walla Regional. This is
something I may try to remedy in the future, but for now, beware.

Acknowledgements
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I would like to thank the makers of Airport (fron 1.19 all the way
up to 2.60; Pascal Meziat, Brian Williams, and Tom Hiscox) and the makers of the
custom .API files and texture files available on the net, without whom I would
not be making scenery (I couldn't understand straight SCASM code to save my life).
I also need to thank the makers of VOD (Raphael Garcia Sanchez) for allowing us, as designers, to make buildings of my own creation. I would also like to send a BIG
thank you to the FS community for giving me the inspiration to continue making
scenery, and to continue getting better at it.
