Moving parts and some additional details.

Designed using Abacus' AF99.
Moving parts produced using Konstantin Kukushkin's superb Aircraft Animator.

The BK117 was designed as a multi-purpose helicopter, it was hoped that it would capitalise on the developing market for twin engined helicopters in the off-shore oil industry support role in the Gulf of Mexico, North Sea and Arabian Gulf. The aircraft was a joint venture between MBB and Kawasaki. More powerful than the BO 105, the prototype made its first flight on 13th of June 1979. It incorporated many new features at the time, one of which was the use of fibreglass main rotor blades, considered much safer than steel blades.
The aircraft is regarded as a very capable air ambulance and can be found in service in this role all over the world. While it does not have the elegance of the S76, or the timeless looks of the Jetranger, this aircraft has a very distinctive appearence, stocky is the word some might use, but it is no slouch, it can tear along at 164mph, has a range of 338 miles (545Km) and has a max gross weight of 6,173lbs (2,800Kg.

Thanks to Cal Booth for all his help during the production of the original BK117 ship.

INSTALLATION, this ship is for FS98 only.
This aircraft comes already configured for FS98 using the default bell panel.
Unzip the file and place the aircraft folder in the aircraft directory of FS98.
A panel for the 117 can be found at Keith's Virtual Helipad - http://SurClaro.com/vhelipad

Flying and controls

I have modified the air file to remove the unrealistic cross couple effect between the lateral cyclic and yaw pedals. (The original Bell model in FS98, although very good, produces a very unrealistic fuselage roll when pedal is applied in either direction.) However, here is a downside to this, you will find that you have a lot more yaw authority in the hover, and it only diminishes at speeds approaching 60kts, but I find this more realistic. So you may end up doing a bit of a Huey shuffle on your first few flights, but you should get the hang of it pretty quickly. The only real problem with the airfile is that if you hold in huge amounts of pedal for a few seconds, the ship will go into an irrecoverable rotation, then break. For the best handling, I suggest you turn all your control sensitivities to their full value, and reduce the null zones to their minumum.
