* INTERFET has great difficulty in reaching the enclave of Ambeno-Oekussi which is under political control of East Timor but situated in West Timor on northern coast. The area has been devastated and there is limited access by road to the capital Pantai Makassar ( Pante Makasar ) formerly known as Oekussi, however INTERFET have upgraded the basic airfield.

* Indonesian troops pull out of East Timor, militias mass on the border

MAPS OF TIMOR ARE EMBEDDED IN THE DOC FILE YOU WILL NEED THEM

Year 2000 scenario

Situation is relatively calm, INTERFET forces are scaled down , UN sign agreement with President Habibie regarding sovereignty of East Timor. UNCHR continues assistance to refugees. Timor begins self rule under independence leader Xanana Gusmao, however he struggles to control Falintil independence fighters who refuse to disarm and begin reprisal attacks against AITARAK, MAHIDI and BMP. Indonesia states that Falinitil guerillas have attacked civil/military targets in Jakarta, Atambua and Kupang which they regard as an act of war, and begin an immediate military response.

1. Pro- Indonesian militias backed by Indonesian military forces begin serious incursions across the border into East Timor on hit and run raids
2. Immediate emergency evacuation of 50,000 people from Pantai Makassar in Ambino-Oekussi . Reduced INTERFET forces cannot secure it from Indonesian invasion. Fly to Ocussi and see desperate situation.
3. F-16's and hawks begin attacks on airfields at Dili, Baucau and Suai, and Ocussi. Indonesian Super Pumas support militia incursions. Indonesian Ov-10 Broncos and Hueys attack refugee convoys (supposedly harbouring Falintil) moving to Dili and hamper INTERFET forces.
4. Delayed UN response sees deployment of USS Hornet to Dili to enforce no fly zone. However due to mountainous terrain this is difficult to accomplish. DOD cannot get UN security council to agree on neutralisation of Indonesian Air Force and are prohibited from flying combat missions over border into West Timor.
5. This is where you come in ......You are a Herc pilot or a chopper pilot who has to haul those INTERFET forces out of Ambeno-Oekussi.... Good luck you are going to need it....

Aim

The aim of this add-on scenery is so that you can fly to all of the airfields in Timor, and experience tactical flying operations in support of security initiatives, conducted by the UN forces in a dangerous, and truly demanding operational environment . It is well known that after the so called free elections in Timor this year, pro-indonesian supporters went on the rampage in an orgy of violence and destruction, a sad conclusion to twenty years of occupation by Indonesian forces, and the catalyst for the deployment of a UN sanctioned peace keeping force.

Installation

Created with AIRPORT 2.19c (Pascal Meziat ) and compiled with SCASM ( Manfred Moldenhauer ) for FS98.

THIS SCENERY NEEDS THE FOLLOWING SUPPORT FILES TO WORK (they are all available on www.SurClaro )

1. Airport 2.0 Textures - txtur202.zip ( these are all the airport.oav textures )
2. VOD3.0 - Vodtex30.zip ( these are the new VOD textures ) by Rafael Sanchez
3. THE PACIFIC ISLANDS- PACIFIC1.zip
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ FS5.1 SCENERY PACIFIC1.ZIP The North and South Pacific Islands and neighbouring Seas

copyright (c) By Alfred Grech

November 1996
.....NB.Alfred uses his own seed textures so follow his instructions exactly in installing to correct subdirectories. ALSO my scenery files do not alter Alfred's files in any way, they are just an add-on and can easily be removed!!!
Alfred Grech is a legend!, his sceneries are accurate, have a high frame rate and are fully complete. His hills are superb and he uses a variety of good looking textures. It is very flexible because it has detailed scenery with accurate runways but has no buildings. This was excellent for me because it was a good base to work from . I was able to add buildings and static scenery to Alfred's Timor terrain with no problems whatsoever. There are two other very good sceneries that cover Timor BUT DO NOT WORK WITH AND ARE NOT REQUIRED for my scenery add-on:

The first is Indonesia 98 by Alfin Rusli, this has many very accurate airfields ( minimal buildings ) but no real terrain scenery apart from default FS98 scenery. This scenery is very good for flying in Indonesia itself , please download it..

The second is Timor Losae v2 by Jose Zambujal. Jose has done a very accurate Dili, Baucau and Kupang, however there is no terrain scenery apart from default FS98 scenery. Please download his file and read his summary of the East Timor situation.

In the final analysis I believe Alfred's base scenery is the best rendition of East and West Timor because of its total accuracy, and quite amazing, considering that Timor is really only a small part of the World.

4. SPANAV99.BGL This is part of Allnav99.zip a great NAVAID add-on done by Johan Van Cranenburgh that covers those obscure parts of the world not recorded in the default navaid bgls of FS98.

5. I have used numerous APIS and textures from a number of authors namely Dan Geis ( excellent military objects ) , Jerry Arzdorf for some excellent vehicles, and many other converted aircraft (MDLtoBGL) like Dean Baunton's Huey choppers. All of the aircraft, converted aircraft and API's have been downloaded from SurClaro or other sites and as far as I am aware are public domain or freeware. My API library is huge so please let me know if you are the author and object to my using a particular API.in the scenery.
I will remove it immediately ......

Step One

Install Alfred Grech's Pacific scenery and follow his instructions

For example place his files in ( C:\Flight Simulator 98\Scenery\Pacific\Scenery\ and C:\Flight Simulator 98\Scenery\Texture

Step Two

Install VOD and Airport textures into your FS98 directory- for example( C:\Flight Simulator 98\Texture )

Step Three

Install SPANAV99.bgl into default scenery directory for example( C:\Flight Simulator 98\Scenery\ )

Step Four

Install my Timor 2000 Bgl's straight into the Pacific subdirectory with Alfred's files for example C:\Flight Simulator 98\Scenery\Pacific\Scenery\

Step Five

Install my textures into default texture subdirectory for example C:\Flight Simulator 98\Texture

Step 6
Go into FS98 menu World , Scenery Library, Files and add new scenery for example C:\Flight Simulator 98\Scenery\Pacific\Scenery\ with path, a name and a priority 0001 and tick the active box

Go into FS98 menu World, Go to Airport and you should see a number of regions with the prefix PAC: the one you want is INDO SUNDA ISL which contains Java and Flores etc and at the bottom when you scroll down should be Timor: and all its airfields. When you go to them you will see my added on buildings and static aircraft

Aircraft include UH1D, Super Puma helicopters
Also have F-16's,A4 skyhawks, OV-10 broncos and have recently purchased Hawks from the British
Transport planes Aviocar , c-160 transall
We are talking serious firepower here!!!!!!!

Assessment:
Capable of defense of islands and internal waters against all existing and
foreseeable threats (China, Philippines, Taiwan). Capable of limited protection
of of sea lanes and surrounding waters against all existing and foreseeable
threats (China, Philippines, Taiwan). No ability to project military force
abroad

Trends:
Military Spending has remained pretty consistent in real terms with only a
slight increase over ten years. Personnel strength has increase slightly over
the past ten years. Recent purchases include surface combatant ships from the
ex-East German navy and two submarines. These purchases are indicative of the
sentiments of the Indonesians towards territorial and raw material disputes in
the South China Sea. These modernization programs represent no intention of
efforts to develop force projection capabilities, but do represent an effort by
the Indonesians to defend disputed territories in the South China Sea.

Problems

I hope to release version Two in the near future . It should have a bunch of dynamic aircraft, and some more buildings on the minor airfields
If low frame rate is a problem with my scenery then you need to do the do the following:

1. Remove the static aircraft textures they will chew up frame rate as each individual aircraft will have its textures and parts drawn. The aircraft will just look gray at night so who cares .
2. Set scenery to normal or sparse, this will remove all static aircraft from all airfields
3. Set ground textures to nil, set water textures to nil, ground shadows off
4. Make your window smaller
5. Buy a new computer ( you'll need one for FS2000 I suggest an 800 MHZ Intel ( overclocked to a Gig ) with 512K RAM , 22 GB hardrive and two 32MBGeForce 3D cards -interlaced that should do it )

If you have any problems just email me

On j86120@xtra.co.nz
Or savern@xtra.co.nz
Or savern_reweti@hotmail.com

Request : Could an Aussie living in Darwin do a nice Darwin Airport for us. I also need a MDL or nice API of a modern soldier in different positions ie kneeling, standing etc to populate the airfields, and an API of a group of refugees, and a militia man. Also an API of a battle tank, and an APC would also be good. Can you send it tomorrow ... Thanx.....Cheers
