Tennessee Airport Scenery - TN00
12-May-00

INTRO
In the manner of KY99, IL99, and WV00 before, TN00 is an enhancement of the
default FS98 Tennessee airports. As with the aforementioned, I eventually added
most of the private airports in the state, all the chart IDed towers/stacks,
water towers, tank farms, elevators, drag strips, and outdoor theaters, added
the sectional identified yellow city blocks along with night lights, and
enhanced the interstates, major highways and parkways to allow VFR flying in
the state with a sectional chart (four are necessary, CINCINNATI, ST LOUIS,
ATLANTA, and MEMPHIS). In all this my two objectives remained a reasonable
frame-rate on a slow computer (90 MHz) and the capability of VFR flight from
the sectionals.

Included with the files are three tours of the state produced with Math
Maessen's FlightPlanner - one covers the public airports (86 airports, 2303
miles), one covers the public ILS airports (24 airports, 1290 miles), and the
other covers the private airports (117 airports, 2357 miles). Print the tour
files with compressed print (at least 12 chr/inch) to fit on a page.

INSTALLATION
Make a new scenery directory (TN) with SCENERY and TEXTURE subdirectories
within. Place the BGL files contained in TNBGL.ZIP into the SCENERY
subdirectory. Place the textures (except seed33.r8) contained in TNTXTR.ZIP
into the TEXTURE subdirectory. Place the seed33.r8 texture file into the FS98
TEXTURE subdirectory. The following generic texture files from AIRPORT v2.10
and VOD can be moved to the FS98 TEXTURE subdirectory (delete if duplicates):

airpt???.oav
flag.oav
aa7673.?af
co_7572.?af
dal_7272.?af
mcd_md90.?af
me_md88.?af
ua_7372.?af
usa_dc93.?af
vod??.pat

Place the FSASMLIB.DLL file in the FS98\MODULES subdirectory. This is necessary
to view airport objects, radio/TV towers, etc. If this file in not present in
the MODULES subdirectory you will get an error when running FS98.

Be sure to sort any SCENERY subdirectory files to get the exclude files at the
end.

Place the following text/WORD/GIF files into the TN directory:
TN-APTS (WORD)
TN00.TXT (Text)
TN-PBL.TXT, TN-ILS, and TN-PVT.TXT tours within TNTOUR.ZIP (Text)
FILE_ID.DIZ
TN00.GIF

Activate the scenery by adding it to FS98's "Scenery Library" by filling out
the info in the "Add Scenery Area" screen. If you use OHIO98 and my KY99, IL99
and WV00 scenery as recommended, these entries must be prioritized as follows
to ensure seeing all the TN00 scenery:

TN
IL, WV and KY (makes no difference which is higher in priority)
OHIO98 (anyplace lower in priority)

NOTES
For most of the public airports, the FS98 menu for Tennessee can be used for
placement. I included two FS6 and before menus. The "Tennessee Public Airport"
menu provides ramp placement for all the FS98 public airports and runway
placement for the those Microsoft left out. The "Tennessee Private Airport"
menu provides runway and some ramp placement for all private airports.

The tours cover ALL the 85 public (and closed) airports and 117 private airports
including 2 seaplane bases. Be aware that includes heliports, STOL airfields,
and seaplane water runways - you may have to just overfly a particular tour
stop, depending on what you're flying. The tours provide straight-in approaches
to the runways from about 10 miles out. Whether you are lined-up directly with
the runway on arrival at the airport depends on how close you turn to course on
departure and when aligned with the runway heading. I recommend turning to
course on departure as soon as possible after lift-off. Also, pay attention to
the departure Rwy (it's not always the same as the arrival runway.)

Memphis International airport (MEM) is provided separately because there are two
recent 3rd party sceneries available for MEM. See OTHER FS98 TENNESSEE AIRPORT
SCENERY below for the files (both available on SurClaro.)
