FSX/FS2004 Goodyear F2G Super Corsair
Goodyear had been a major producer of the Chance-Vought F4U Corsair naval fighter since 1943 (under the FG designation). The next year they were asked to work on a high performance variant, which was given the F2G designation, indicating that it was seen as essentially a different aircraft. This new aircraft was based around the powerful Pratt & Whitney R-4360 Wasp Major engine, which was capable of providing 3000 hp, a big increase on the 2000 hp engine used in the original Corsair.
Using experience from building the fixed-wing FG-1, a version of the folding wing F4U-1 Corsair, in early 1944, Goodyear extensively modified a standard FG-1 airframe, designated the XF2G-1, to take advantage of the 50% increase in take-off power provided by the R-4360 engine. In addition, an all-round vision bubble-type canopy was installed. In March 1944, Goodyear was awarded a contract to deliver 418 F2G-1 and 10 F2G-2 aircraft. The F2G-2 version included modifications for carrier operations.
Armament provisions included alternative wing-mounted installations for four or six 0.5 inch (12.7 mm) machine guns and eight 5 inch (127 mm) rockets or two 1,000 or 1,600 lb (450 or 725 kg) bombs. The internal fuel capacity was increased greatly over that of the FG-1, and provisions were provided to carry two droppable external tanks.
By the end of the war in August 1945, only five each of the F2G-1 and F2G-2 aircraft were completed. Testing revealed deficiencies in lateral control and insufficient speed, which were bars to further development of the aircraft. In addition, the Grumman F8F Bearcat, that could do all the F2G could do, was already in production making the F2G redundant. Thus, further production of the F2G was canceled.
The new aircraft was technically a great success. It could reach a speed of over 450 mph, fast enough to intercept the Japanese kamikaze aircraft at a safer distance from the carriers. However, before the F2G could enter full production it became clear that the war was coming to an end. Only 10 production aircraft (apparently five of each type) were completed before the order was cancelled.

Installation:
========
-Unzip " Supercorsair" into a temporary file and move the "Supercorsair" folder into the main Aircraft directory.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
-Read instructions carefully when installing the gauges , say YES...when asked if the gauges sources should be trusted. If you say no....most of the gauges are not going to work !
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
-Leave all gauges in the Supercorsair panel folder
-Copy the effects into the Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator ...\effects folder and the 20can.wav into the Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator ...\sound folder. The fx_tracer.bmp must go into the Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator ...\effects\texture folder
IMPORTANT :
-For FS2004 change the FS9_Wing_Guns.fx into FX_Wing_Guns.fx
and remove the original one.
-landing light is triggered by CTRL+L, all other lights use panel light shift+L.
-guns use strobe .
-Spoiler key opens cowling to expose engine.
-cowl flaps use standard key.
If having trouble with prop and cockpit transparencies in FSX acceleration, copy the glass.bmp and propdisk4. bmp files from the Acceleration.texture into the Supercorsair texture folder.
-To counteract the heavy torque produced by the powerful engine an auxiliary rudder was installed in the later F2G-2 models. It only turned to the right. This feature is automatic from 95% throttle with the Torque3 gauge and triggered by the water rudder. If you don't like this feature, remove the gauge31=more!Torque3, 1,1,1,1
from the [v_cockpit01] panel.cfg. The bottom rudder then works with the water rudder manualy.
-In the texture map, the corfuse.bmp is for the F2G-1 model and the corfuse1.bmp is for the F2G-2. All other bitmaps are the same for both models.
