Repaint for the FFX 737-500 as Southwest Airlines Heroes of the Heart by Sam Kimpton for FS2002 and FS2004.

In a succesful attempt to consumate a promotional partnership with Sea World, GSD&M director Tim McClure had one of Southwest Airlines' 737-3H4 aircraft painted to look like the theme park's Orca Whale "Shamu". The project, code named "Freind" was so secret that not even Southwest's founder Herbert Kelleher was aware of its existance until the aircraft was ready for unveiling.

the production schedule for Southwest's 737-3H4's was altered so that this particular airplane could be flight tested. The templates for the paint scheme were developed with the assistance of zoologist from Sea World and produced by a firm in Redmond, Washington before the actual painting of the aircraft in an unused hanger there. once completed Shamu was flown to Edwards Air Force Base and made its debute on 23 May, 1988 in a low altitude flyover at Sea World of Texas in San Antonio.

"Shamu", aka "Sea World of Texas" was the first of Southwest Airlines' special paint schemes and was subsequently incorporated into tow additional aircraft. These were 737-5H4's N507SW (Shamu Two or "Sea World of California") and N501SW (Shamu Three or "Sea World of Ohio").

Each of these aircraft have undergone repaints subsequent to the original scheme with certain modifications thereof. They retained the original design. In each case the designations "Sea World of Texas, California, and Ohio" was replaced with "Sea World Theme Parks". Also The number deignations "Shamu Two and Three" on the 5h4 aircrafts' nose art were replaced with simply "shamu". In addition The flag of the United States was added in the area of the whales upper "fluke" or tail fin situated over the fusilages' rear door in accordance with standard practice for Southwest Airlines' fleet.

N507SW or "Shamu Three" was repainted during June of 2002. it currently belongs to US Bank NA Trustee to which it was type certificated as "corporate on 17 May, 2003.

These texture sets for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002 and 2004 depict N501SW and N507SW as they appeared both before and after their repaints.

Original aircraft by FFX, Repaints by Sam Kimpton

I would like to express my gratitude to the fine people at FFX for their 737-300 which inspired and formed the basis for this repaint, for my fellow pilots at Southwest Virtual Airlines, The folks at Sim Southwest and the lucky people who work at the finest air carrier in the world,...Southwest Airlines.

To install simply place the contained directory "B737_5H4_Shamu" into your Flightsim 2002/2004 Aircraft directory.

For ease of installation, The panel.cfg file designates the default 737-400 panel. You may, of course, replace this with any panel of your choosing. I recomend either of fabrizio Berretta's excellent 737-300 analogue panels for FS2002 or 2004.
