FS2004/FSX Seafire Mk III
=========================

Type History :
==============
The Seafire F. Mk. III was the first true carrier adaptation of the Spitfire design. It was developed from the Seafire Mk. IIC, but incorporated manually folding wings allowing more of these aircraft to be stored on deck or in the hangers below. Supermarine devised a system of two straight chordwise folds; a break was introduced immediately outboard of the wheel-wells from which the wing hinged upwards and slightly angled towards the fuselage. A second hinge at each wingtip join allowed the tips to fold down (when the wings were folded the wingtips were folded outwards). This version used the more powerful Merlin 55 (F. Mk. III and F.R. Mk III) or Merlin 55M (L. Mk. III), driving the same four-bladed propeller unit used by the IIC series; the Merlin 55M was another version of the Merlin modified to give maximum performance at low altitude. Other modifications that were made on the Spitfire made their way to the Seafire as well including a slim Aero-Vee air filter and six-stack ejector type exhausts. In addition the shorter barreled, lightweight Hispano Mk V cannon were introduced during production as were overload fuel tank fittings in the wings. This Mark was built in larger numbers than any other Seafire variant; of the 1,220 manufactured Westland built 870 and Cunliffe Owen 350. In 1947 12 Mk IIIs were stripped of their naval equipment by Supermarine and delivered to the Irish Air Corps.

Performance
===========
-Climb Performance
Max. rate of climb at sea level 2500 ft/min. Max. rate of climb at 14,200 ft. (F.T.H.) 2600 ft/min. Max. rate of climb at 20,000 ft. 1920 ft/min. Max. rate of climb at 30,000 ft. 745 ft/min. Service Ceiling 35,600 ft. Estimated absolute ceiling 36,200 ft.
-Level peed performance.
Maximum true airspeed at 4,000 ft. 321 mph Maximum true airspeed at 10,500 ft. (F.T.H.) 351 mph Maximum true airspeed at 24,000 ft. 328 mph

Effects
--------
-On startup there is automatic engine smoke.
-Then follow the exhaust flames with smoke.
-Wing vortex effect appears by default at 2.5g or quick roll rate.
-Continuous blue flames with smoke if engine is running .
-You have WAR emergency power with the WEP gauge.
-Wing cannon with flash, smoke and falling cartridges can be triggered with the standard Strobe key (O).
It is much nicer however if you put the FS2004 standard Strobe key (O) to the trigger from your joystick.You can change this in the Key menu.
It is a good idea if you replace the standard (L) key for lights by the L+CTRL, (normaly activating the landing lights only). This avoids you having to have all lights on when pulling the trigger.

Installation:
==============
-Unzip " Seaf_MkIII" into a temporary file and move the "Seaf_MkIII" folder into the main Aircraft directory.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
-Read instructions carefully when installing the gauges , say YES...when asked if the gauges sources should be trusted. If you say no....most of the gauges are not going to work !
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
-Leave the fighters.cab in your panel folder. Put the WEP.gau into the panel folder from your flightsim gauges map.
-Copy the effects into the Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator X\effects folder.
-Add the 20can.wav in your Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator X\sound folder.
ATTENTION :
-For FS2004, change the FS9_Wing_Guns.fx into FX_Wing_Guns.fx
-For FSX change the FSX_Wing_Guns.fx into FX_Wing_Guns.fx
If having trouble with the cockpit transparencies in FSX acceleration, add the SEAFR_t3.bmp and SEAFR-t5.bmp into all texture folders.
The sound is aliased to the Douglas_DC3 but can be changed by the one of your choice.

Flying the model
================
This plane is a good flying and realistic machine.Use of the trim is often necessary and speed has to be handled carefuly for manoeuvres.
-Shift+H(or+G) lowers the landing hook
-Shift+W folds the wings
-CTRL+E opens the canopy
-Radiator flaps are opened by the close cowl key.
TAKE-OFF :if you have manual rudder enabled, be ready to apply hard rudder and brake when you hit the throttle !
Better apply throttle proportionaly and slowly at first.
1.Parking brake on, start engine, 1/4 flaps
2.Disengage parking brake
3.Hold enough rudder, brake to keep the aircraft straight
4.Take off at about 100 Knots, wheels and flaps up at 130 Knots.
5.To fire guns activate O-key or trigger.
6.Approach at 25% flaps, wheels down at 120 Knots.Extend hook for carrier landings.
7.Touchdown at 85-90 Knots.
