Sonderlandeplatz Bad Saulgau ( EDTU ). Scenery for FS 2000.
May 2001.

1. Bad Saulgau is a small town in the lovely " Oberschwaben "
region - that part of Baden Wurttemberg between the Danube
River in the north and Lake Constance in the south. The
Bad Saulgau airstrip is situated in the north east not more
than 2 miles away from the center of the town at an elevation
of 1907 feet. The asphalt runway has a dimension of
450 x 15 m and a 126/306 mag direction. It is admitted to
aircraft and helis up to 2000 kg MPW. The field is in use
at this location since 1968 and is operated in responsibility
of the local flight club. Its members serve a lot of hours to
keep everything in good shape, and the result is a really neat
and comfortable airfield.

During the last years, EDTU - airstrip has become a meeting point
for parachute jumping. As the field is not so much busy with
air traffic, the skydivers have favourable conditions for
their activities. The comercial " Skydive " company with
its new and modern hangar next to the building of the flight
club, offers the whole programm of parachuting including
checking and maintenance of the equipment by authorised
personal. On a weekend or during training course you will
hardly get a parking space for your car, and searching for
one you will not only discover german but also austrian, swiss
and even french registration numbers.

With the framerate of my good old 600 Mhz machine in mind,
I designed a situation on an early friday afternoon, when
only the first skydivers arrived with their caravans, campers
and cars.

The field with its facilities and the closer neighbourhood
is designed as real as I could do making use of quite a few
pictures and some close inspections. The more distant environs
including the small village Moosheim in the north is
similar and should give you an impression of the typical land-
scape of this region.

2.The scenery was designed using the following freeware programs:

- Airport v. 2.60 by Pascal Meziat and Manfred Moldenhauer
- VOD v. 3.0 by Rafael Garcia Sanchez
- BMP 2000 v. 4.00.19 by Martin Wright
- mdl 98 to BGL v. 3.51 by Trevor de Stigter

Thanks to all these authors for developing and distributing these
excellent tools and great compliments for their skill - outstanding !

Very helpful to me was the informative "Scenery Design Whiteaper
for FS2k and Airport 2.10 " by Martin Wright, Ralf J. Triebel
and Andreas Klisch. Having this paper on my desk I had (almost )
always an answer to my problems.

Because of the strictly freeware limitations on the upper mentioned tools
I used, this scenery has to remain freeware too.

3.Installation:

Create a new folder (named e.g. saulgau) and subfolders scenery and texture.
The folder can also be placed outside your FS 2000 folder. Unzip the contents
of this file to those folders ( all bgl. files to scenery subfolder,
bmp. r8. oav. (X) af.files to texture subfolder ).

To activate scenery you can:

a)Follow your FS 2000 help manual (scenery library). After you have done
the steps, open your FS 2000 scenery. cfg and add the flatten statement:

Flatten.0=1907,N48 02.28,E09 29.49,N48 02.63,E09 30.25,
N48 02.19,E09 31.15,N48 01.50,E09 30.59

b)If you don't want to follow the FS 2000 manual, you can also copy
the following supplement to the end of your FS 2000 scenery. cfg.

[Area.???]
Title=Saulgau
Local=???\scenery\Saulgau\Scenery

grafics adapter. Hope you like it - if you do, please send me a mail.
