Unreal Aviation SWing SST.

Slew-Wing supersonic transport prototype.

Twin engines, high aspect ratio elliptical wing, slightly offset cockpit that looks like the top of a flying saucer and an offset fin.

Below 300 knots, she looks reasonably normal apart from the slight asymmetry of these two parts. Then, as she accelerates, the whole aircraft slews by 70 degrees, the cockpit continuing to face forwards, the fin and engines likewise until you have what looks for all the world like
some stratospheric surfboard, rocketing upwards to Mach 1.8.

Animated gear doors, gear, wheels, suspension and spoilers plus slewing wing, cockpit, engines and fin.

This very simple model was built in a day so there is no VC.

Modified B737 panel to give Concorde airspeed and Mach meter.

Installing.

Drop the SWing folder into your main Aircraft folder.
FS2002 users must move the gauge in the aircraft's panel folder into their main Gauges folder and drop the Unreal folder into the Gauges folder. Do not remove the gauges from the Unreal folder. If prompted to overwrite an existing folder (and it IS mine) then do so.

Drop the fx_smoke_swing.fx file into your main Effects folder.

Flying.

Set your throttle to give 200 knots for take off and retract the gear when you are established in the climb.

Flaps will retract automatically and the wing will slew above 300 knots.

Climb to 35-45000 feet.

Go somewhere a long way away.

To land, lower the gear below 235 knots. By then the wing will have slewed back and the flaps will have extended.

Try to land at 135 knots max. otherwise you may collapse the gear (in FS9, it seems to be much better in FS2002, the sim I designed it for...) and DO NOT allow the speed to drop below 125 knots as although the stall seems benign, you will actually get into an unrecoverable deep stall before you get any warning that there is a problem. It's a position-error thing that will have to be ironed out for the production aircraft but hey, this is a prototype.

If you think you are in trouble, add full power and go around.

She IS a STOL aircraft and I have operated it from Redhill in Surrey (a grass strip for anyone who hasn't visited). The locals didn't like it and there were letters to Kingsway etc. but there are no markings so nar, nar, na, nar, nar! :-)

A quick-to-build model that is just a little bit different from all those silver tubes out there. It was a joy to make and animate and who knows, if there is enough interest I may do the big airliner version. 300 ft span, four engines etc.

That's it, have fun.
