ABOUT THE AIRPORT:

Newark Liberty International Airport (KEWR) is operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey under a lease with the city of Newark, NJ. This relationship has been going on since 1948. The airport was built by the City of Newark on 68 acres of marshland. Today it sits on 2,027 acres, with the majority of the airport located, believe it or not, in the City of Elizabeth, NJ. It was the first major airport in the metropolitan area which today consists of LaGuardia, JFK and Newark. Newark opened on October 1, 1928. It quickly became the world's busiest commercial airport. The Army Air Corps operated the facility during WWII and in 1948, the Port Athuority took over. The first tower was completed in 1959, and the new 325 foot tower was commissioned in 2002. The old tower is still standing.

ABOUT THE SCENERY:

Why is it when you live in an area where there are famous tourist attractions, not to many local inhabitants visit them? Well this is why I decided to do my rendering of Newark Liberty International. I live in the area, and I thought I should at least attempt KEWR.
The challenge I faced right off is the fact that the default scenery is a frame rate killer. I have a 2.8gHz system with 512 mb of ram and a 128 mb vm video card and I still have a little trouble with the NY-NJ metro area in the default scenery. So I tried to keep the frame rates decent. As hard as I tried to keep this scenery's frame rates compatible with the low to mid range systems, it may be best on the high-end machines. If you find that the frame rates are not good for your system, try playing with your settings to see if you can get some improvement.
This scenery boasts two layers that seem to work well. If you remember FS2002 and AFCAD1, you could layer the airport to get the full use of all runways. I tried the same thing here and it does work. 4R-22L, 4L-22R and 11-29 can be used at the same time. With that, I designed the large commercial flights to use the 4-22 runways and the smaller private flights to use runway 11-29. Hope you have an enjoyable flight.

ABOUT THE AIRCRAFT:

The startup aircraft I used is a repaint of the default Boeing 737-400 in Continental Airlines livery by Tony Potter. The file on SurClaro is b737_coa. Here are the aircraft I used as AI aircraft:

Please keep in mind that my AC#'s may be different from yours in your Aircraft list in Traffic Tools. Just match up the type and livery or chose your own.

For my own personal taste, I changed all of the default flights at kewr in the traffic tools flight plans text to diferent aircraft that serves Newark. Before doing this yourself, make a backup of the original flight plans text.

ABOUT THE INSTALLATION:

I layered the airport so as to utilize all runways. Therefore, you have an extra file to deal with. AF2_2EWR.bgl is for the north side of the airport. It handles runway 11-29 for the smaller aircraft and commuter flights. Make sure it and the AF2_KEWR.bgl are in the FS2004/Addon Scenery/scenery folder. (FS2004 is the name of my main FS folder. Yours may be different). Remember to add the airport 2ewr to the airport text file in traffic tools. Find kewr and copy it to the same text file then change the k to a 2. The coordinates are the same.
Here is a step by step installation guide:

Hopefully I've made this step by step installation guide user friendly. If there is any part you don't understand, fell free to email me and I will try to assist you the best I can.

Again, I hope you have unzipped the kewr_v2 zip file to a temporary folder and are reading this readme file now.

Step 1. Set your unzip utility to use/create folders, then unzip the kewr2_scen.zip file to the drive where your FS2004 is located.
Results of step 1: A folder named fs2k4_scenery\kewr\scenery should be created on your drive. In the scenery sub-folder should be the *.bgl files. Also, the start-up files NJ - Newark Liberty Intrnational.FLT and NJ - Newark Liberty International.WX should be in the My Documents\Flight Simulator Files folder and the AF2_KEWR.bgl and AF2_2EWR.bgl files should be in the Addon Scenery\scenery folder of FS2004 as explained above (or however you named the folder where your flight simulator is located.)
Step 2. Open the KEWR2FLTPLN.txt file and copy the contents to the flightplansxxxxxx file in Lee Swordy's Traffic Tools v2 (If you don't have traffic tools, you can download it from SurClaro) Download all necessary aircraft and install them into FS. Now add them to the Aircraftxxxxxx file in traffic tools as per the Readme file of TTools. Don't forget to change the AC#'s in the flightplans file for kewr to follow sequence with the AC#'s in YOUR traffic tools Aircraft file.
Step 3. Download and install Lee Swordy's AFCAD v2.11. Open AFCAD and enter the Tools menu and select the Aircraft Editor. There, for each aircraft used in the scenery, designate the livery. If the livery is not available, designate the type of parking. For example Cargo, or C or Mil_cargo or MR etc. This will help assign the aircraft to the proper parking space.
Step 4. Start FS and select settings, then Scenery Library. Now select Add Area and install the scenery in the usual manner. Now shut down FS.
Step 5. Re-start FS and this time select Select a Flight. At the top select My Saved Flights. At the bottom, find NJ - Newark Liberty International and highlight it and click OK.
Step 6. Have a happy and safe flight.

I hope I didn't leave anything out. You can email me at the address below for comments/questions. I will try to answer as soon as possible and as many as possible.
