INTRODUCTION

This is my first attempt at Sceanery Design, since first using FSMS on a Atari, (FS5) I think!! Like many I suspect,
It arose out of the lack of a good rendition of my local airfield, other than the Magrathea VFR, which I think did
include a reasonable version, but was for FS2000/FS98 which I was not using.

Welshpool Airfield lies approximately 2 miles South of a small Market town of the same name, in Powys. It seemed an
ideal first project, with some buildings, but not overly complex for a beginner, Wrong!!!

It was the home for Pool Aviation which used to offer Flight Training, Maintenance and Other services that one would
expect on a Airfield of this size. As far as I am aware, the airfield is still licenced as a private Airfield requiring
prior permission before use and is still used mainly by light aircraft.

INSTALLATION

The Main download file EGCWv1.Zip, Contains a further file called EGCWv1.exe, along with various image files,
but more importantly, the readme file, all is that the 'must readme file'.

1 UnZip/Extract all files from EGCWv1.zip into a temporary folder.

2 double click the EGCWv1.exe to commence installation and follow the the prompts upon installation

3. All image files and readme files will be installed to the root directory of the
Scenery installation; [Fs2002 Drive]Program Files\Microsoft Games\FS2002\scenery\Welshpool

Once having installed all the files as above, it will be necessary to run FS2002. Once in FS2002 select the 'World'
Menu/Scenery Library. You need to click on 'Add Area' and select the Welshpool SubDirectory so only the Scenery &
Textures directories are visual (I.e path I:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FS2002\scenery\Welshpool)

Alternately, you could edit the Scenery.cfg file. Copy the scenery layer below and cut & paste into your scenery.cfg,
at the end of the file.

[Area.xxx]
Title=Welshpool
Local=scenery\Welshpool\Scenery
Layer=xxx
Remote=
Active=TRUE
Require=FALSE

Your [Area.xxx] would be the next incremental number, as would the [Layer=xxx].

You then change the layer number and ensure that the path is correct for your scenery directory.

DESIGN NOTES !!!!!!!!!IMPORTANT PLEASE READ!!!!!!!!!

I started designing the sceanery with Architect 2002, written by Doug Pouk, which I would recommend, I then went
on to attempt Editing the Scasm file by hand in order to gain better results, which I hope I have achieved. I
also used airport 2.6 and subsequent versions,to deal with Gerrish Gray's trees, although I did start to
hand write his macro's in to my own Scenery Scasm file towards the end. I designed most of the Macro's in Abacus
Design Studio FSDS, which I had already purchased for aircraft design.

I have recently ammended my scenery to work with Lago's Terramesh for England and Wales, which I would reccomend
from its accuracy in the area. Should you experience any strange behavior with ground textures, then email me as
I believe this could be related to flattening of scenery areas and without knowing your mesh, I can't predict the
outcome of my scenery installation on your system.

In my scenery design I have used Gerrish Grays Trees which can be obtained from Avsim/SurClaro Achives, or
other sites. I have tested compatibility with his version 3 and this seems fine. Don't
hesitate to contact me should their be a problem with his new release.(vmc@flightsims.co.uk) Many thanks to him
for his Trees and his support, which has been many, at times.

I would recommend disabling Autogen In display settings, only from the point of view that I had not designed the
scenery with this set and I am unaware how to prevent objects from appearing where not whated.

For best results you should uncheck/deselect 'Mip Mapping' in the Display/Hardware Section of FS2002, otherwise the
runway markings won't be very defined.

The continuous Taxiway Centreline is white at Welshpool airfield, as of present I have not been able to change the
standard yellow marking to white, other than changing (taxiway_marks.bmp) to white, which is found in FS2002's main
texture folder. THIS WOULD OF COURSE CHANGE ALL DEFAULT AIRFIELDS

The Scenery was designed on the following Pc specifications, although I have always been conscious of frame rates.

Athlon XP 1.4/Epox 8KHA+ Motherboard
512Mb Pc2100 DDR Memory
Nvidia Ti4400 Leadtek Geforce (Winfast A250Td)
Sony 19" Flat Screen Crt
Creative SB Audigy Sound Card

SCENERY DENSITY/FRAME RATES

I have included the detail in my scenery at three different density levels in attempt to preserve frame rates and
make my scenery more accessible to different systems. I have tried hard witin my knowledge and ability to keep the
scenery usable. I have reason to believe that the terrain in this area does impact on frame rates.
Using the Dreamfleet Archer II, with an approach for Runway 22 at 0.8Nm final, I have assessed frame rates whilst
paused. (See above PC Spec)

The scenery is sitting on Lago's England & Wales Terrain Mesh, and Microsoft's default Textures.

WITHOUT SCENERY ANY SCENERY: 35.6-40 fpm

NORMAL SCENERY SETTING; 24.3-25.6 fpm

All Buildings, Pylons (which are important on the approach for R22), Road Hedges on approach to R22, Miniumum
amount of Trees around Airfield, windsock, Large Oak Tree south of runway and the line of Popular Trees Sw of
Runway.

DENSE SCENERY SETTING: 23.8-27 fpm

Fence around the grassed aircraft park, one static aircraft, more trees along the entrance road to the airfield and
Vasi lights left of R22(only static object), unsure about how much lighting is available here, other than very limited.

VERY DENSE SCENERY SETTING: 22.1-27.7 fpm

Airfield entrance signs, Denser tree line on the approach to R22 and two trees to North of the Hangers

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

I owe a big thank you to Doug Pouk of Arch2002, for helping me get started and registering my macro's in Arch2002,
which I created in FSDS,. That was a real 'Brick Wall'!!! (Others were to follow). Also Rob, on the Arch2002
Support Forum, who greatly assisted across the pond, in those early days!!! Thanks for Doug's and Shawn Manners Plugin's!

Gerrish Gray was a big help and inspiration, both with his trees and in helping me create Library Objects for my
Macro's, plus suggesting simpler designs, in my attempt to get lower frame rates. Can't thank him enough.

Thanks also, to Justin Tyme's Scenery Design Reference Pages on the Web and Konstantin Kukushkin's reference notes,
which were essential in enabling me to even begin to attempt to understand the Scasm Language, which I felt I needed
to know as my Scenery progressed

I corresponded several times with Shaun Manners, a featured Architect at the Arch2002 Web Site.

Many thanks to the authors of DXTBmp, MDLtoBGL and BMP2000. (Martin Wright and Trevor Stigter)

Many thanks to Massimo Taccoli for permission to use his Dimona aircraft textures for static aircraft.

I have had to remove a twin engined static aircraft from my Scenery due to being unable to contact the owner, but hope
to rectify this in a future upgrade. Indeed as a future upgrade, I intend to include Pete sidoli's N95N Seneca as
a static aircraft at welshpool.

This sceanery couldn't have been designed by myself, without the support of those people in the Avsim Sceanery
Design Forum and others, in the Arch2002 Support Forum, not to mention those, at times, on the Airport 2.6 Forum.
They all played there part in the development of my design and they know who they are.

FILE OWNERSHIP

I have made exhastive attempts to ensure that I have not reused other peoples work and Therefore, sort prior
permission for reuse of other authors Textures and where refused, have created my own textures.

Should I infringe anybody's rights with this release of sceanery and files, I will gladly remove the sceanery from
the Web Libraries, rather than pass of others work as mine. I take this aspect of my scenery release very seriously.

DISCLAIMER

I am unaware of any problems that these files may cause on others system's, But installation of the attached
files is at the user's own risk and I cannot accept any liability regarding damage to your own system.

THE FUTURE

When I first started designing this Airfield Sceanery it was purely for my own use, but as the project grew the
idea of releasing my work as freeware and sharing my work with other Simulation Enthusiasts seemed to gain speed.

At this point in time, I have decided to release my Scenery at this stage in its development, so others can use it.
I hope to continue to revise this design and make improvements to textures and add addition detail. In particular,
Trees are very much an aspect on takeoff from Runway 22 to the South West, and I hope I can improve on this without
infringing upon frame rates.
