MSFS98 Scenery South West Scotland version 1.0 ( SWSc.zip )
This scenery is not compatible with other Scottish scenery that I am aware of but I have tested the scenery flying back and forward to Ireland using Terry Sheilds scenery and it works well with this scenery and covers daily flights now running from Prestwick to Belfast and Dublin.
This is my first attempt at scenery making and I have chosen to enhance the default scenery for my local area.
The scenery is centered around Glasgow Prestwick Airport which is not covered in the default scenery. The airport is in fact some 30 miles south of Glasgow situated on the Ayshire coast.
As well as fairly detailed scenry for the airport itself I have enhanced the surrounding countryside to better show the nature of the landscape and the fact that the airport is surrounded by rich agricultural land. A late addition has been to add some detail to the Isle of Arran and the Mull of Kintyre to show the outstanding beauty of the Firth of Clyde. I would hope to develope more detail in these areas in further versions.
Prestwick Airport is not the main airport for the region with all long distance flights departing from Glasgow Abbotsinch. At one time however before the upgrading at Abbotsinch all of Scotland's transAtlantic flights left from Prestwick. Following the cessation of these flights the airport suffered a decline in traffic until a few years ago when the airport was taken into private ownership,
the airport now belonging to the Stagecoach Group which also operates most of the bus services in Scotland and in other parts of the UK and World Wide. The airport is once again booming
with regular daily flights to Belfast, Dublin, London and Paris as well as regular holiday charter flights to Europe. The airport also has extensive freight facilities and is served daily from the USA by Federal Express.

There are two other prominent features which dominate the immediate vicinity of the airport, the first being the British Aerospace aircraft factory which dominates the northern side of the airport. This factory has been making aircraft since at least World War 11 although now it only makes parts for bigger British Aerospace projects and the workforce has decreased in recent years. The factory is best known, when in its days of being Scottish Aviation it introduced and produced for many years the " Jetstream " range of aircraft, a short range small commuter plane which the company exported all over the world. The other prominent local feature is the golf courses, with many in the area, but to the forefront and beneath the seaward approach to the airport are the championship courses of Royal Troon and Old Prestwick. The latter course hosted the first Open championship but is no longer on the list of venues but Royal Troon course is very much an Open venue. The golf course texture is at its early stages at the
moment and hopefully can be improved upon. It is also worth mentioning that use is made of the airport by the nearby British Aerospace Flying School and also many airlines use the airport for practice take-off and landing exercises for their pilots and every type of aircraft has been involved in this including Jumbo's and even at one time Concorde. A recent addition to the airport is the Railhalt with connecting elavated walkway to terminal building and I have included this item all be it in a fairly basic way. The rail line crosses the seaward approach just short of the runway.

Installation

This scenery has been compiled using Airport 2.10 and will require vodtex 2.7 or later texture files, asdtextu.zip and txtur 202 to make everything appear around the airport.

I have installed all add-on sceneries in a totally seperate directory from FS98 and this scenery runs well from such a source although it can equally be placed in the FS main scenery file. The file is split into a scenery file, a texture file and documentation. Open a new folder in the name of SW Scotland and place the files as they are in this folder. Start up FS98 and add scenery to Scenery Library as "local" and make it any position within your local sceneries ( if in doubt there are many FS sites with comprehensive instructions for installation of scenery )

As well as the authors of Airport 2.10 I would acknowledge the work of Tim Dickens for his Apimac program of mackro's and Michael Rodriguez for his Fences program. Also thanks to Hans Meier for his Mountain making program which solved a difficulty I was having with hill making using Airport 2.10.

This is my first effort at scenery making and I hope that anyone who does try it will feel free to contact me with any comments they may have and especially the glaring boobs I may have made and not noticed. Please get in touch at e-mail:-
